Per my AI of choice, Hal6900:

“Since 1946, the president’s party has lost congressional seats in 20 of 22 midterms, with rare exceptions in 1998 (impeachment backlash) and 2002 (post-9/11 rally).”

Between social media, blatant state sponsored propaganda, algorithms and feeds, there has never been so much pressure on moderates to feel bad about who is in office and feel good about the challenger.

It's called paying attention, which is what most people do when they go to the grocery store, or open insurance and other bills, or try to buy decent clothing, school supplies and toys for their kids.  Trump's economy sucks and regular people know it.

Yeah Republicans are going to eliminate it completely and just eradicate all government healthcare programs 🙄🙄🙄 just like tariffs were going to bankrupt everyone and the shelves were going to be bare and the economy would tank and all the other alarmist shit you’ve been wrong about

I don’t think incumbents are at any kind of normal advantage in this political environment.  Between social media, blatant state sponsored propaganda, algorithms and feeds, there has never been so much pressure on moderates to feel bad about who is in office and feel good about the challenger.

I see. Things are measurably worse, tariffs were bad, but you then say "hey, we aren't all bankrupt chicken little, the shelves aren't BARE", what's your fucking problem? The GOP is the Tim Beckmann and John Groce of poltical parties. No wonder you're ok with 7-5 and the Red Box Little Sisters of the Poor Bowl.

Wisconsin may be 4-7 but there’s still a ton of talent and depth and size there, and Fickell isn’t chopped liver. They flustered the shit out of Washington a few weeks ago too. They were a bad matchup for our finesse football team, which seems ludicrous to say about a BB team, but here we are.

how does an Illinois graduate end up with such low fucking standards.

I was also referring to the last presidency, and the one before it, and the one before that. All the way back to the time when social media became prevalent and people were constantly bombarded with “the end is here” bullshit all day, every day, even when they weren’t in front of a TV or listening to the radio.

First it was Obama birthers then Trump Russia hoax and Biden open borders and Hunter’s laptop and now in 2025 it’s whatever TDS stuff you have your focus on today.

The economy is fine, the markets are way up, many home grown groceries and gas are down. Rent rates are softening, interest has been reduced. Trade deals are getting done. Yet it’s nothing but doom and gloom. I know this is hard to metabolize.

Literally none of the alarmist nonsense you said came anywhere close to being true so now you’re shifting the goalposts like Tempo.

What’s measurably worse? Stock market is setting records, groceries and gas down, interest down.

Job numbers?

Well, AI is partially your fault, and it’s causing lots of people to lose their jobs. Don’t see you whining about that like you did about Doge.

Not only did you help create a technology that will wipe out more jobs that the black plague, you progressives have lost control of the government and radicalized this generation of young men into the most conservative in at least 50 some years. Whoops!

What this tells me is that for many households things have gone worse than expected the past 3-6 months, and most people can feel it.

Hey, but less brown people running around!
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

“The figures suggest…”

The figures suggest that lots of people believe the lies they’re being told about the economy. Naturally, when you’re stuck in a negative echo chamber, lower consumer confidence becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The biggest write-in issue for people on these polls is that they think inflation is headed back to 5+ percent because that’s what has been beat into their heads by the media. (It’s exactly like how the sky was falling about the soybean prices a couple months ago when they were almost identical to 2024. They’re now well over a dollar a bushel higher than last fall) Just goes to show how the media can influence one’s thinking in complete contradiction to the facts.

But most here will be shocked to learn that inflation isn’t meaningfully higher than it was in 2024, despite all the alarmist reports that presumed the tariffs would be 100% pass-through and also assumed that consumers and businesses wouldn’t adjust. (They knew better)

There are no empty shelves, no mass shuttering of small businesses, no runaway inflation, no runaway grocery prices, yet roughly half the country believes all those things are actually happening. Pretty good marketing trick!

You know what’s also driving a lot of consumer confidence issues right now? Massive layoffs and job uncertainty due to AI.

You want to talk about a driver of inequality, let’s talk about AI. Killing off lower and middle class jobs while enriching the more monied classes who are invested in it.

Haven’t seen anyone griping about that here because people are too worried about people who entered this country illegally. Priorities man!

Inflation isn’t meaningfully higher…. But the bad orange man told us he was going to lower prices - which means deflation, not “inflation isn’t meaningfully higher”
