Interesting that assaulting a cop and giving them brain damage gets you a pardon but throwing a sandwich gets you a felony charge.

Hello, Hal.

Can you share some details as to the effectiveness of these programs and why they haven’t been adopted on a larger scale here in the states?

The Government is run by people who are generally honest and don't do a lot of crime*. This is a subset of people who develop a mindset that anyone who might be tempted to do a crime* would be deterred by the fear of getting caught and incarcerated.

Given that assumption, to reduce crime, the rational answer is "Put more cops out there so the chance of getting caught is higher, and make penalties larger so the price for doing the crime and getting caught is higher"

The fallacy here is that the group is projecting their mindset - that being in jail is a show stopper that must be avoided at all costs - is the mindset of someone who would commit a crime* in the first place. For the people wanting more cops and tougher sentences, the point is moot because they would never commit a crime* in the first place, regardless of the potential for retribution. But for the person who would commit a crime* - the concept of jail isn't a big deal. If you're so broken that you'd murder someone, jail isn't that big a deal. They aren't thinking "well, I want to kill this person, but jail would suck so I won't do it"

Given that - the actual rational answer is to try to address the question "why are certain humans willing to do crimes* - and is there a way we can alter that". But the people making the rules can't comprehend the mindset that for some people, jail isn't considered much of an issue.

* - violent crimes. The people running the government don't really have a problem with fraud, insider trading, or corruption. That is why these crimes have low penalties.

Yes, who released this report? Will they have a job tomorrow?

The idea that we can add 15%, 20% or 50% to an importer's cost without it causing price increases is totally bizarre.  The tariffs will be slow rolled into price increases.  Very few companies, despite Trump's demands, will eat these costs forever.  Sooner or later...we’ll have to pay for it.

And price increases on imported goods will provide cover for price increases on domestic goods.

The DOJ employee was charged with a felony because after assaulting a police officer with  the Jussie Smollett Special he tried running like a girl or running away like a coward.

Good job, Trumpers!

Maybe it will be coming to Reno? But I am thinking Murph will tell us no one actually visits Reno.

To be fair, still plenty of Russians and Arabs visiting Mar-a-Lago.

Has Trump given back Alaska to the Soviets today? Figured that he would throw it in along with the Ukraine.

No slowdown here in Reno Tahoe... Vegas is actually insane, the prices there are out of this world high, like take what you think something costs in an expensive city and triple it... not sustainable at all.  From what I remember they way overbuilt and these megaresorts are struggling badly and laying off thousands of people.  Not surprising to see forclosures happening even though 200 in a city of millions isn't a lot.  I had a work stay at the fontainebleu and it was a nice hotel but nowhere near the foot traffic on that end of the strip so therefore it was pretty empty except for those of us staying there for the conference.  Reno's casino take from what I recall seeing a chart one time is mostly from the locals (lol) and not entirely dependent on tourism, but tourism here has been fuckin bonkers this summer, restaurants packed, etc.

South Shore prices are up for sure, the table minimums if you want to go gamble are just gross, and there is no escape now that the Lakeside has closed.
But it just doesn't matter. The primary market for Reno/Tahoe is the Bay Area, and there's just too much freaking money.

We just looked at a nicely rebuilt Eichler in Palo Alto. The Eichlers are cute, but in the end they were small cheap houses, I think the architecture is overrated. This one was like 1700 Sq Ft, with a reasonable yard. They ripped it down to the studs, so it was fixed up and kept the same footprint and character but modernized the plumbing and HVAC.

It was in Palo Alto which is way up there on the "Brand" scale, but it was way on the edge and near the freeway.

Listed at 3 Million. Open house on the weekend, taking offers 3 days later on Wednesday, 36 disclosure packets sent out, went pending at 3.5 Million.

Place is just broken.
