The problem is no one is saying "I wish I would have voted for Harris." The Dems are just as out of favor as a) there is the performative crowd who wants them to fight for pronouns and illegal immigrants and ) there is the crowd who hate the crowd
who wants to fight for pronouns and illegal immigrants instead of working Americans.

This is exactly right. The tone deafness of the left-of-moderate Democrats is incredible. There is no winning messaging, no concept or strategy, and no platform other than full-throated Trump opposition and race baiting.

It was absolutely disdain for blacks, women and gays that tilted the election.

Also, eggs. Trump is at 40% approval, even lower on his handling of the economy.

But a lot of people still say "I would still vote for Trump. Because blacks. And Women"

Yet Trump overperformed with women, blacks, and Latin American immigrants. Keep that head buried in the sand pal.

Except that if you read that interview, there is a group who voted for him because he said he would lower prices. Those are the people who are primed to be picked off. But you have to talk about economic issues and not pronouns, surgeries for 15 year old trans kids, Venezuelans here illegally being dragged off the street along with their legally here kids, supporting terrorists whose phones blow up, etc. That is what a moron like Pritzker doesn't get.

Harris said she'd lower prices too. But that group, given the option of a white man who says he's going to lower prices, and a black woman who says she is going to lower prices, will choose the white man, even if he has a history of blowing smoke up their asses.

Well, the problem here is - Trump fucking sucks so fucking badly that "don't vote for Trump" should be a trivially easy message, but well, we have a lot of people who couldn't figure that out without a more detailed playbook.

So now, the Democrats best strategy is to just let Trump burn it all down and say "we told you so"

So if the election was solely women, blacks, and latin americans, Trump would have won in a landslide?

No, I think the strategy PAZher is talking about is probably best. We already went through four years of fingers-in-ears screaming about Trump as the entire identity of the Democrat party, and while Biden did gain office in 2020, Trump stormed back and won convincingly in 2024. Maybe instead of relentlessly blaming the Trump voters, maybe come up with some engaging politicians and some messaging that actually draws people to the party.

There are no elections for 2 more years. And at this rate we won't make it that far. FAFO, indeed.

In the end, it wasn't the politicians who pulled the levers. Trump's stupidity wasn't exactly difficult to figure out. All the top MAGA politicians are sticking with the line "This is what he campaigned on doing", and each MAGA who gets run over says "This isn't what I voted for"

I don’t see a problem.  The “Give It Some Time, Fingers Crossed, I Don’t Know” voters who pushed Trump over the top in the last election don’t give a shit about Harris.  Nor do the polling firms.  The election is yesterday’s news.  And most don’t know who the fuck Pritzker is, nor do they care about his big speech in NH where he was preaching to the choir.  It’s just background noise at this point, even for people living in Illinois.

Trump won this voter block because he had a better message on the economy, consumer prices and immigration.  Pronouns, DEI, campus protests and other “progressive shit” wasn’t much of a factor for these voters, if it all.  It was red meat for MAGAs to increase turnout.

But we’re starting to see cracks in Trump’s armor among this group because of concerns about the economy, jobs and future growth.  Interestingly, some of his Latino supporters also appear to be concerned about due process when it comes to his immigration policies.

Trump’s poll numbers are trending downward.  I think the “Give It Some Time, Fingers Crossed” group will support Trump for another three months to see if he delivers on his promises.  However, our Waffler-in-Chief will shed even more support if his helter-skelter tariff policies lead to rising consumer costs, empty shelves/shortages, cancelled orders, and retail closures.  Those are all tangible things.

The clock is ticking.  If the economy goes sour (in other words, a recession), this voter block will turn on Trump by the droves in the mid-terms.  This will give Democrats, whether they deserve it or not, a shot to win back the House.

More people voted for someone other than Trump, despite historically week opposition. Kamala Harris was not a strong Democratic candidate and there was no credible Third Party choice. Yet Trump got less than half of the popular vote.

Winning the Electoral College while getting less than half the popular vote was traditionally seen as flukey, unless there was a strong Third Party Candidate like George Wallace or Ross Perot. It has never been seen as convincing, and certainly not a mandate.

Part of the problem is Trump and his fanboys and fangals mistakenly think the wide  Electoral College margin amounted to a strong mandate. As a result, they are way overplaying the hand they were dealt.

Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you.  Great ad. She had no comeback because she is a lightweight flip flopper.

Well, you have people bitching about letting him do just that.

indeed. I'm sort of in the James Carville camp here. It will cost us some to let a crash happen in terms of how hard it will be to recover, but when Trump was President first time, we kept him in check just enough that a decent amount of people were willing to give him another shot.

This is a pretty damn good post, just don’t forget Trump still has all the levers. The wait and see crowd is on shaky ground, but he could make the DJI/S&P go up 10% in a week’s trading just by saying the right things. But don’t expect Murph or Jobu to come in here bragging about their gains if it does.

While this is some fine and good goalpost moving, it was *supposed* to be a coin flip election and it was anything but. Presidential elections aren’t settled with reductive “didn’t earn majority of votes” arguments. Just like election results, the electoral college matters. The Democrats made several crucial mistakes and lost the election. Murph is playing the race card, you’re playing the “well if we did our elections different maybe this wouldn’t have happened” card. Who you crappin?
