It's hard to grow up that way. It's like telling a kindergartner to figure out how to solve an algebra equation. They're just gonna fuck it up. Fortunately, my fuck ups when we were growing up weren't life threatening. My parents did their best with what they had, and what they felt was right. In the meantime, they raised a couple of fucked up kids. One of whom is dead.

My parents have both passed on. Yeah, they did their best, but I always swore that I would do so much better by my children. And I have. They both have awesome jobs, and I'm so fucking proud of them. At the end of the day, that's all that matters to me. Nothing else.

Sorry, that got long. But I just felt like typing it all out. If it was a waste of your time, I apologize.

No real reason to see it that way—you were a latchkey kid that didn’t grow up with a single mother scraping by while you’re at some shitty daycare all day. But many do, and it’s getting worse all the time. But per usual people are focused on treating the symptom instead of addressing the root causes. Examining the root causes would potentially uncomfortable!

One of the biggest predictors of success in this country is being raised in a two parent household. 70-80% percent of black children being born to single mothers (whose baby daddy is usually absent) must then correlate with a less desirable outcome, right?

I go to an absolutely amazing black barber every two weeks. He’s specifically said countless times that the biggest problem in the black community is lack of responsibility of young black men and welfare programs that reward black women for staying barefoot and pregnant. 

Is he wrong, too? Or does he have license to cite facts and data since he is black?

Successful nuclear families (28%?) with mom and dad raising their biological children.

The failed or broken home nuclear families don't get counted, such as  single moms, divorces, step parents, adoptions, foster families ...

The nuclear family is great when you only count the successes.

All the extended families get counted. Due to do social mobility, the system is unintentionally rigged against the extended family. Also, the extended family tends to be the safety net for the failed nuclear family.

pretty much the only predictor is how much money your parents have. Two parent households have more money in general, but they might be two parent households because of the money, not the other way around.
