We're blaming contact on the guy who objectively stuck his body into the path another guy was moving on.

I said earlier that I think calling it a 'hip check' is an exaggeration, but he absolutely moved his body into Marsh's path and initiated the contact no matter how hard you try to pretend he didn't.

Lol the ref literally barely moves. And he made his body smaller, not bigger. Marsh has to side step to avoid a complete head on collision. All while the ref apparently twitched his butt.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

That shit happens all the time. No one notices without the highly questionable taunting call.

The ref stuck his butt out, swung his left leg and arm back directly into the path.

Typically when I'm trying to avoid contact my move isn't to put my body directly into the path of someone running.  You?

Like straight up if you were arguing "oh he just had a brain fart and moved the wrong way", I'd be like okay it doesn't look like that to me but at least that's feasible.

Arguing that he doesn't initiate the contact is crazy.  He clearly and obviously does.  There would've been no contact without him shifting his body into Marsh's path.

True, but the timing of the flag made this all very curious, no?

Well yes, the call that swung the game was definitely also a part of why this was bad.

But can you show me other examples of refs initiating contact with players if it happens all the time?  I don't remember it ever happening but maybe it has.

Little thought experiment for Tempo.

It's next year.  We've fired Nagy and Pace and are in the hunt for a playoff spot, led by Justin Fields.

You still telling people they're overreacting to the awful officiating?  You still defending the ref that initiated contact with a player?  Seems incredibly unlikely you'd agree with yourself were the situation different with the Bears, even if the details of the game and play were identical.

"Twitched his butt." Oh, Tempo.

There was no swinging of the left leg. The left leg recoils after contact. The ref was making himself smaller and probably bracing for some nearly inevitable contact. 90% of the motion was coming from Marsh. No one notices any of this without the controversial taunting call.

The notion the ref went out of his way to create contact is absurd. The video just doesn’t support it.

The ref turned sideways, moved his right leg about 2 inches; and braced himself for likely contact. What a brute. Who will protect 265 pound men in pads with all the momentum from the granite butt twitching refs?

I guess no one here has ever taken a karate lesson. Turn yourself sideways to create a smaller target in case you’re about to get hit. I just don’t see it. Marsh was the one with all the momentum and he was basically running right at a 69 year old man who had little time to react or guess which way he was going to cut.

Like I said, if not for the highly controversial penalty, this doesn’t even get noticed.

So in Tempo's mind, this is what happened.

Closer to this IMO. Marsh clearly had to sidestep the ref to miss him. Im sure he ref knew which was he was going to cut….
