I laughed out loud when I read this on The Onion Saturday.

Then on Sunday Jameis throws 5 TDs en route to a 131 QB rating.

I would be less adamant about Fields starting if I felt there were competent stewardship of the franchise. Instead, I just feel like Nagy and Pace are hoping they can slow play their job security.

Other than just general incompetence, the fact that there’s no ownership of the situation is so maddening. Nagy and Pace are just hopium dealers and snake oil salesmen IMO.

The good news is the Fields pick will, at worst, be a nice thing to walk into for a new Coach/GM.

I’m not confident a new GM or coach are walking in that door anytime soon. Even though they probably should be.

With Hicks, Mack, and others aging out soon (and Eddie Jackson a shell of his former self); Pace or another GM is going to have his work cut out for him. Fields good or not good.

One of the worst things about this was the Bears had a great young GM candidate in Chris Ballard in the building and let him get away. Bearce…

I honestly think Nagy and Pace are reluctant to start Fields because when the wheels come off, they can at least fall back on the “we haven’t had enough time to evaluate Fields” excuse at the end of the year. I think they were just hoping Dalton could get them off to a decent enough start to delay the inevitable.

I think there’s a realistic chance the Bengals boat race the Bears. I’d be shocked if Jamar Chase doesn’t get behind that secondary a couple of times.

If Fields doesn’t start this Sunday, then Pace and Nagy are every bit as dumb as I think they are.

Bengals at home should be a clear indicator of whether this defense is washed, or if last night was just an off game.

I think my pick was week 3

Nagy is coaching for his job. He probably played Dalton because he thought he gave them a better chance to win.

If Fields had clearly outplayed Dalton during camp and preseason there’s no way they wouldn’t be playing their stud rookie QB.

They probably didn’t think their defense would get shredded the way it did, either. Pretty sure Fields isn’t a miracle cure to this team’s numerous ails and I’d had to see him get hurt playing basically for nothing.

He's not, but it didn't take a football genius like Tempo watching last night to see that the offense as currently constructed with Dalton ain't gonna get it done.  Their defense didn't play well enough to win, and that was surprising - but neither did the offense.  Stalled so consistently in Rams territory.
