Seen the top prospect of iowa and a 5 star stays with his home state.  Never see this ever in illinois.  Top 10 prospects of 22 went elsewhere.  Thats the problem with this program.  U have to recruit your state.

That’s been a main focus if not the primary focus of the staff since they took over. Iowa has been a solid program for a long time. Illinois has been a dumpster fire. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

So wait, recruiting out of state to a basketball program with a somewhat illustrious history is smart, but recruiting to a football program with no recent history to speak of in-state should be a priority? Seems backwards to me.

Yeah, Illinois isn't exactly talent rich when it comes to elite football talent.  But there is some that has gotten away due to Illinois not doing their due diligence in recruiting.  They plain and simple let them get away with no effort.

Lovie put 0 effort into recruiting or communicating with anyone in Illinois.  Bielema has a hill to climb in that regard.

He's already taken steps toward that in hiring people familiar with high school football in Illinois and developing relationships.  It will take some time to leverage that.

Kerby Joseph declares for the NFL Draft. Huge loss. Wish he would’ve stayed for his senior year, but can’t blame him.

LB Tolson and TE Barker declared as well.

Illinois is the only school in the BIG 10 who didn't get a 4* or better.

We got plenty of 3*s, especially on the line, but it is nothing to be impressed about.

I noticed that also. We did sign a bunch of in-state kids tho, so hopefully we're opening up some doors there. Gotta coach the 3*s up, which our conference neighbors to the north and west seem to do with 3* linemen.

I saw the HS final with that RB from Joliet Catholic on the TV. A guy who used to go to the dog park who went to the Springfield Catholic school they beat down went to that game. We both agreed that dude was a man among boys out there that day. I'll take him.  Hope he continues looking like that for the Illinis.

Not a single 4 star?

Yeah I’m pretty happy with this class considering where we were. Building relationships in-state and they appear to be high-character recruits with the right attitude. This is where we’re gonna have to start. Solid 3-star guys and win will open the door for higher-rates guys in the future.

Time will tell. It's more about coaching/development and desire/work ethic once the recruit arrives on campus. WRs Chris Olave & Michael Thomas were 3* coming out of high school. They turned out pretty well at Ohio State. JJ Watt, Khalil Mack & Clay Matthews, Jr. were 2* players who became pretty good players in college & the NFL.
