It's a quandary. O knows how to get players, and Gent knows what to do with them.
He certainly has experience on a a lot of staffs of note at D1 level.
I can't say I have a clear idea of what he did in roles as Dir of Operations, or Player Dev Director in previous jobs in other programs
which are not one of the 3 official assistants. He was an Asst at SFA.
This is his second Asst job. Others were of the other staff type.
I am guessing each program has variations of what these guys do. Technically, they can have a lot of guys in addition to the Assts impacting the program and player development.
Obviously Brad likes him around and respects him. How much influence he has over what we do on the court is something maybe Rob and others know better.
It ultimately falls on the Head Coach as CEO to lead program culture, make the final decisions about overall vision, systems, strategy and in game approaches and adjustments.
I actually thought we may have been better last year as a team.
I also thought that one of Underwood's son Tyler's friends had some analytics he had provided which led to the
ball pressure extended defense being scrapped for a version of packline. It was talked about constantly.
FWIW- Ok State had a terrible defense the year Underwood (and Gentry) were there. I am guessing they ported the SFA ball pressure mid major scheme to the B12.
It didn't work, and it didn't work in BT either the first two years.
All that said- I think we can replace what a Gentry brings.
Harder to replace what an Antigua or Chin brings.
