It was not a typical scout because of the quick turnaround.

But you'd have to think the blame goes to Brad anyhow.

It's a quandary. O knows how to get players, and Gent knows what to do with them.

He certainly has experience on a a lot of staffs of note at D1 level.
I can't say I have a clear idea of what he did in roles as Dir of Operations, or Player Dev Director in previous jobs in other programs
which are not one of the 3 official assistants. He was an Asst at SFA.
This is his second Asst job. Others were of the other staff type.
I am guessing each program has variations of what these guys do. Technically, they can have a lot of guys in addition to the Assts impacting the program and player development.

Obviously Brad likes him around and respects him. How much influence he has over what we do on the court is something maybe Rob and others know better.
It ultimately falls on the Head Coach as CEO to lead program culture, make the final decisions about overall vision, systems, strategy and in game approaches and adjustments.

I actually thought we may have been better last year as a team.

I also thought that one of Underwood's son Tyler's friends had some analytics he had provided which led to the
ball pressure extended defense being scrapped for a version of packline. It was talked about constantly.
FWIW- Ok State had a terrible defense the year Underwood (and Gentry) were there. I am guessing they ported the SFA ball pressure mid major scheme to the B12.
It didn't work, and it didn't work in BT either the first two years.

All that said- I think we can replace what a Gentry brings.

Harder to replace what an Antigua or Chin brings.

Unless we pony up BIG $$$$ and make Orlando the highest paid non head coach in the land with a seriously huge buyout option, he will be gone. Our recruiting will fall squarely on Chin's head then....Gentry is the in game guy. I don't think Self has enough to lure Chin imo, especially with the lifetime contract and the ??? over the program in the past.

Good to see my influence coming to light with Whitman and the major decisions for our basketball program. I knew he would come around and pony up to OA.... ;D, OA is a must keep, then Chin, then Gentry in that order, no exception. The program is to steeped in the PR pipeline right now, losing OA would set us back another 5-10 years imo. Keeping OA, losing Chin would set us back somewhat, mostly in the eyes of Chicago, however as we all know the recruiting favor for the ILLINI is up and down yearly there. Keeping both and losing Gentry is the bes case scenario, as the in game and prep scouting plans can be done by another. In fact bring back Dee and let him learn from all 3.

Dee is not coming back. He had some boundary issues on a recruiting visit, or with a boosters wife,  I forget.

Orlando Antigua?

Apparently. Maybe Michael Lewis will write a book about him.

It's awfully quiet today. Too quiet.
It's a Friday.
It is customary to release bad news on a Friday late to stay out of news cycle.
