I don’t think Illinois fans have been complacent. The fans have voted with their wallets (not coming to watch bad teams) and the donors have ponied up to level the facility playing field. Have you seen the new Ubben practice facility that’s on the way?

I haven't. But it seems that when Illinois builds something nice, the big boys just build.something nicer and the catch up cycle starts again.

Not really true. We didn’t even really try until the SFC renovation. Guenther (somewhat understandably) flat out hated the modern era of collegiate sports and basically refused to participate in the facilities arms race. We were 20 years behind the curve when Thomas took over. The AH renovation is certainly a contentious topic, but I personally am glad they kept a perfectly usable landmark and made it into a modern facility.

By the time Ubben is done we will have very high level facilities everywhere but MS but we have a long long way to go before we can even fill it let alone need anything better or bigger.

I’m not looking to argue with you but you kinda seem resigned to Illinois forever being ECI U but that’s kind of denying reality at this juncture.

I get what you’re saying but I tend to believe that there were things he couldn’t disclose in the letter. IMO he tip toed around them more so out of procedural caution than a lack of facts.

One guy just captured the BTT title and the third one seed with a team almost every national analyst has picked to go to the title game.

The other guy was desperately trying to save his job after getting pummeled by a team in their practice jerseys that had just survived a life threatening airplane incident.

But other than that, very similar situations.
