Pittsburgh wouldn't guarantee more than a year. They needed a qb but that's what they thought of Fields.

I don’t think that’s correct. I think I remember Pittsburgh offered him two years, but the Jets offered him a little more money, and I don’t think he wanted to return to Pittsburgh anyway.

I guess you could say you were somewhat correct, but two year deal is two year deal. Either way, if he stinks this year the Jets will likely move on anyway.

And if the Jets "move on anyway" if he stinks they'll still be paying him year 2 guaranteed money.
Pittsburgh needed a qb for this year and they guaranteed him 2025 money but not 2026 money. Fields knew he was probably only a 1 year bridge qb in Pittsburgh, so he left.
