Pittsburgh wouldn't guarantee more than a year. They needed a qb but that's what they thought of Fields.

I don’t think that’s correct. I think I remember Pittsburgh offered him two years, but the Jets offered him a little more money, and I don’t think he wanted to return to Pittsburgh anyway.

And if the Jets "move on anyway" if he stinks they'll still be paying him year 2 guaranteed money.
Pittsburgh needed a qb for this year and they guaranteed him 2025 money but not 2026 money. Fields knew he was probably only a 1 year bridge qb in Pittsburgh, so he left.
