HahHahahaha man you are incredibly shameless.

Can’t even pretend at some form of logical consistency.

What did I say that isn’t true?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that anyone making the argument that it’s too risky to move Fields and take a QB at 1 because what if he’s Matt Stafford can be safely mocked.

I never directly said that.

Stafford was pretty good at stuffing the stat sheet (with an all-time great WR and an insane amount of pass attempts). Yay. His career results are mixed at best. He was widely viewed as a loser until 2021.

And followed that up with 4-12 and 20 TDs on an insane 727 pass attempts. Is that a record?

If Fields throws for 5,000 yards and 20 TDs on 727 attempts next year while going 4-12 (let’s call it 5-12) you gonna be pumping him up the same way you’re pumping up Stafford?

So again, I need clarity. Is a quarterback’s primary job to elevate his team or put up big passing yards?

I can just about assure you right now conversations among Dolphin’s higher ups are being had about whether or not Tua is the guy to lead their franchise going forward.

Eyeballing it, Stafford went 4-12 witht 20 TDs and 17 INTs and a 79 passer rating about 38 starts in. Year 4 of their rebuild. So, am I supposed to be impressed?

Not sure if you're being dishonest on purpose here, read something wrong, or what.

Through 38 starts Matt Stafford was 17-21.  He'd thrown for 10,562 yards, 71 TD and 45 INT on 60.8% completion.

His third year in the league he went 10-6, threw for 5023 yards, 41 TD and 16 INT.

Through 38 starts Fields is 10-28.  He's thrown for 6674 yards, 40 TD and 30 INT on 60.3% completion.

The first of these guys - the one who won a Super Bowl - you are ripping on for being a bust of some kind (??), and the second you insist we need to keep because if you spend the first pick on a QB you might get the first guy.

By every single passing statistic - plus W/L record, you still need to let me know whether that counts or not - Matt Stafford was notably better than Fields through the same number of starts.  In fact, by both wins and passing TDs, Stafford had more just in year three than Fields has through three years, along with ~75% of the passing yards.

You tell me man, it seems to shift based on what you're trying to argue.

If it's about stats, well then obviously Fields is pretty mediocre and it's probably time to move on.,

If it's about W/L record, then Fields is horrible and it's definitely time to move on.

I tend to lean toward the first thing, because I don't think it's fair to tie a W/L record to a QB - something it seemed like you agreed with until you saw a chance to use Stafford's W/L record (better than Fields', of course) to paint him as a bust.

I'm okay with arguing with you based on W/L being a QB stat, or based on it not being one.  Based on Stafford's whole career so far, or only the sample he's played that matches Fields' sample.  Totally fine either way.  But if Stafford's record counts against him, so does Fields.  If Fields' doesn't, then Stafford's doesn't either.

You tell me.  You set the parameters of what stats are valid to use to evaluate a QB, and we can compare the guys

Stafford didn’t reach 38 starts until year 4. Which would seem to be year 4 of their rebuild (assuming he was the first piece of the rebuild). They went 4-12 and he threw 20 TDs on 45.4 attempts per game.

Obviously doesn't put much stock into the "Justin Fields survived Matt Nagy and still has value" narrative.  This guy has the Bears trading him for a third and two sixths.

I will guess they would get more than that for him, but unsure on that.

Correct - 9 games into year 4, he started his 38th game.  He was 17-21 in those 38.

Could have gotten the ball to his best receiver who was wide open underneath and might have still scored. He got impatient and made the wrong decision.
That's just completely stupid. The guy in the end zone was wide open.

I think it’s a lot more fair to tie a qb to a win loss record over 12 years than it is over 3, one of which wasn’t even remotely a serious effort to win.

Player personnel guys disagreed with that at the time. I'll admit I never saw what the big deal was either, but I remember there were people out there crowing about him.
