You made excuse after excuse for him this year when this was supposed to be the "no excuses" year given all the cap room and draft picks.

We do. And about 65% of those bust. We also have an unprecedented chance to build the 53 man roster for years to come. Either path is totally defensible.

Minus DJ the “upgrades” didn’t really pan out. Remember how Chase Claypool was supposed to be an important part of Fields’ development? Pretty convenient how quickly Fields detractors forgot about him. The offensive line was better, but still not “good.” Getsy proved he doesn’t deserve the title of OC and was in over his head.

Got the assist from back to back bad decisions from Josh Allen in the final 2 minutes. Shouldn’t have been greedy and taken the underneath stuff that was there.

I’m sure you saw the thing recently about how it was about twice as likely that a QB taken #1:

Throws for 4000 yards in a season
Throws 35+ TD in a season
Makes a pro bowl
Starts 80 NFL games
Or wins a playoff game

Than a QB taken 2-5 (and the odds get notably worse the lower the QB is taken).

Can you find a QB later?  Yeah, definitely - you’re just way way more likely to find one at 1.01 than anywhere else.  You’re way more likely to find, say, a great WR later in the draft than a great QB.

So is Baker Mayfield a “hit” for Cleveland? Because I’m sure he qualifies for that stat. Jameis Winston? If Jacksonville had the #1 pick I’m confident they’d be having the same conversation being had here. Keep Lawrence or start over? Not that Lawrence has been bad, but it would definitely be a conversation.

Jared Goff would probably be the best QB in the Bears franchise history.  As for whether they found him satisfactory - they traded him for another 1.01 QB and won the Super Bowl.  I wouldn’t complain too much about that outcome.

Probably. And he still wasn’t good enough for the Rams, and we’d still be bitching that he can’t play in the elements.

Yes, they traded him for a QB who was unable to “elevate” his franchise, despite having arguably the greatest receiver of all-time.

Yes if the Bears drafted a QB at 1.01 and got the years that Stafford produced in Detroit the only debate would be whether to cast his Soldier Field statue in bronze or copper.  He’d be the best QB we have ever had and it wouldn’t be remotely close.

If you’re scared of spending a top pick on a QB because he might be Matt Stafford I don’t even know what to say to that.
