Amazing play to bobble it and kick it to the defender when he had it 80% corralled! Amazing play! JFC you don’t see how ridiculous you sound right now?

Er, I see how ridiculous YOU sound right now trying to criticize this dude for not making a miracle play falling backwards on a tipped Hail Mary.

It's an absolutely laughable, absurdist criticism.  You don't accept any criticism, no matter how valid, of Justin Fields but you're hammering Mooney for this?  Just could not be more clear that you have lost the thread.  You don't even know what reasonable looks like if you're willing to make some of the arguments you've made since that game ended yesterday.  Like completely in crazy town stuff.  It's hard to even have a real discussion with you about it.

Anyone who bashes a QB (any QB) for a Hail Mary incompletion or INT is being exactly as stupid as the people bashing Mooney for not making a miracle play falling onto his back.  No more, no less.

They call it a Hail Mary for a reason.

Who was bashing the quarterback for Hail Mary INTs? Wasn’t this guy. WTF are you talking about?

If you want to say “that’s not an easy catch,” fuck, I’ll give that to you. But spare me the “Amazing play just to be in position!” Good Lord.

Sorry - in the future I will lie to you like you lie to yourself to protect the QB from any criticism whatsoever.

You literally just said PAMan would.

If he did, he'd be behaving exactly as stupidly as the people hammering Mooney for not making the miracle play are right now.

It's a prayer.  He threw a 500 ball.  Mooney almost made an amazing play off a tipped ball to come up with a win, but couldn't.

Literally if not for Justin Fields that statement simply isn't controversial at all.

He had it in his arms. Would have been a MIRACLE to keep it there. I saw better catches on a daily basis in high school football practice. Steve Bennett had incredible concentration.

Again, want to call it a tough play? Sure. “Miracle” or “Amazing just to be in position?” Please.

He seems to have regressed.

Would you be open to considering the notion that his regression could be at least in part being moved from WR1 to WR2 for a guy who seems to struggle to make reads and progress through the options?

When he was Fields’ WR1 he looked at least solid.  Not a true WR1, but better than he does.  I’m not saying it’s all Fields’ fault, but it’s at least possible that Fields’ processing issues have played into Mooney’s struggles.

You read it wrong. I said he’d be bashing Mooney if Bagent or another Bears quarterback threw that pass. He’d be bashing Mooney for the drop. But since Fields threw it he gives him a pass. It’s not hard to see through the bullshit.

Sorry.  In the future I’ll lie to protect your feelings.

I think most people wouldn’t think it was controversial to say a catch made falling backwards off a tip on a Hail Mary would’ve been pretty miraculous, but you’re in the process of updating the standards for the entire history of football to protect Fields from all criticism so obviously there’s no point in acknowledging reality.

Ahh my bad for misreading - then again, that would be exactly as idiotic as someone bashing Mooney for it when Fields threw it.  No more, no less.

Is it safe to assume that if it was Bagent rather than Fields you’d be more reasonable about it?

If any other Bears quarterback throws that pass you’d be bashing Mooney relentlessly. You’re fooling no one. Well maybe your lackeys here. But that’s it.

I have lackeys? Awesome! Who are they?

I doubt Bagent can throw the ball that far.

No, he would be defending Mooney for not making the play if Bagent threw it.

We all know how this works.

I mean, not bashing a guy for not making that play is the reasonable stance.  Bashing a guy for not making that play is unreasonable, no matter who the QB is.  Would’ve been an amazing, SC Top-10 type play.

I’d be asking myself why our playmakers consistently cant make game winning plays.

Sure, but not because of some miraculous difficulty of the catch. Easy catch? No. Makeable? Absolutely. That catch makes SportsCenter because it would have been a game winner.

Then you're not being honest enough to be worth listening to, obviously.

Would've been a hell of a play.  Wish he'd made it, but he didn't.  Not making the flukey tipped ball Hail Mary catch falling backwards is not a thing to criticize someone for, no matter which QB threw it.
