The DOJ is not COMPLETELY independent of the President who is Chief Executive of the Executive Branch. That doesn’t mean the President calls the AG and says “I want this, this, and this…” well, unless that President is Donald Trump.

Biden sought a conciliatory tone, because he thought things would normalize and he didn’t want to upset the apple cart. Biden loves status quo. Meaning if you’re in the club, you’re mostly untouchable. He thought Trump would go away.

I’ll bet Biden didn’t think Trump would bounce back from 34 felony convictions, because Biden still lived in a time when being seen on a boat with a woman who wasn’t your wife ended your political career.

Biden was trying to “unite” the public, and not rock the boat. The precedent was set when Ford pardoned Nixon. “Hey, bud. You’re in the Untouchable Club.”
