The season is now ended, but it lasted for months. Because of Covid, many U of I students abandoned their apartments months ago. But some stayed.
So the exodus didn't happen over one week in May + the late July-through-mid August lease expiry period.
In all, I collected about 5 years worth of laundry detergent. Six computers. About a three year supply of black & green teas. Quantifying the food haul is tough, but I think two of us could eat for a month on what I brought home.
But if it's specifically TODAY, the answer is nothing. Yesterday it was four yellow onions and a Totes umbrella.

Better watch the onions. They may have the salmonella!

Forgive me, because I'm sure this was answered back on Cesspool 1, but do you set up a black market shop and sell this stuff to new students in the fall or is this just your own stash?
-
He freecycles what he doesn’t sell to incoming FOB Asian students
-
I found a lost charging cable in a junk drawer while looking for something else.
-

Every year I'll find at least one TS-84 and one iClicker2. I sell them for $40 and $20, respectively, on Craigslist. Here's my current posting: https://chambana.craigslist.org/ele/d/urbana-iclicker-2/7172908139.html
Most of the stuff is cleaned up (wiped or laundered) and boxed up, then taken to one of the local charities (Goodwill, Re-Store, Empty Tomb, Salvation Army until this year when it folded, Salt & Light).
We keep items if they're upgrades. For example, we had a toaster and a toaster oven. Now we have a really nice toaster and toaster oven.
This year, we've given a lot to friends and neighbors having Covid-related hard times. Shampoo, lotion, cleaning products.
We drink the booze.
-
As I've mentioned, the stuff I find is typically high-end. Poor people can't afford to throw things away. Rich people have nice things.
Thus, the laundry detergent tends to be Tide. The dryer sheets tend to be Bounce. The cleaning products are Lysol rather than a discount brand.
The clothes are new-ish (or in many cases, never worn) and brand-conscious. Lots of wool and expensive winter coats, including furs.
Heather has a $300 pair of Italian hiking boots which had never been used.

Oh for the days of 2-1 ballgames played in under under 2 hours.
RIP Mr. Gibson.

I’d watch more baseball if it wasn’t astoundingly long and boring
-
On the other hand, I remember a pair of broads agreeing that baseball is the only sport they'll tolerate attending, because there's so much time to chat between occasional moments of action.
-
As for finding, I continue to go for long walks every day. And while I mostly spend the time on picking up discarded plastic bottles, I did find small trove on Friday.
It was the three large suitcases that caught my eye initially. Then I spotted grocery bags with visibly unopened lunch meat and cheese. But it was shredded cheese.
Who makes ham and shredded cheese sandwiches?
The full jar of Hellmann's mayonnaise cost someone a minimum of three dollars.
-
I just finished a ham and aged Swiss sandwich with store brand mayo and brown mustard.
-
Does anyone here age their own cheese?
-
Sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks to eat it all once I get some
-
I like to buy a brick of cheddar, then leave it on the shelf for a few months.
It becomes Cheshire.
-

I cut it myself.

Unrefrigerated?
-
Unrefrigerated?
I'm glad you swallowed the bait. Thanks for that. OF COURSE it's unrefrigerated.
How much bandwidth would you like to dedicate to American Inferiority? We could start with Americans refrigerating food items which developed over millennia because they're shelf stable.
-
We have had this conversation before. I thought of it earlier this evening when I bought some washed eggs and subsequently put them in my refrigerator.
Cheddar can be aged for many years and remains cheddar. Cheshire is generally considered a different cheese, and is not available to me locally. So I would like to know how I can take some run of the mill cheddar and make it into Cheshire in the comfort of my own home.
-
I found some provolone in the dairy case at Aldi.
-
I found some Muenster at Aldi. It will stay refrigerated.
To turn cheddar flaky, leave it on a shelf for a few months. If you're willing to spend an extra $1.69, leave one there for couple of years and let me know what happens.
-
Do you leave it in the plastic wrap?
-
Yes.

Did some research on this and found this thread which has some good information

Shut up when you’re talking to me!

That's interesting. Especially the part about "it won't turn cheddar into Cheshire."
My shelf is in the basement, and maintains a more constant temperature than the above ground portions of the house. But it's never as cold as 55°.

I also found it interesting the first article I clicked on said that. I quit reading before anyone explained (if they ever did) the point of the newspaper and foil and tape for already sealed up cheese but I’m gonna give this a try. The aldi blocks of cheese are a staple around here but they certainly aren’t gourmet. I bought a bit of 9 year cheddar ($40 a lb I think it was) last summer on vacation but not looking to do that regularly.

Just now, I randomly found this Streetview of Monticello (which I visited in April).
It must have been a helmet cam, rather than a car. Check out the kid waving, and the socks on the other guy.

BTW, after visiting Monticello, I decided that you can't understand American history without visiting Monticello.

The Neil Kinnock speech is why I've always been anti-Biden.
I voted on September 24. Zero Republicans were involved in my ballot. I hope the Lincoln Project people can launch a new center-right party that cares about economics & defense and has zero regard for Jesus.

You wrote yourself in for president, didn’t you?
As an aside, Trump cares about economics and defense and has zero regard for Jesus so we will need to have more rules.

Think you are being pretty generous there. Trump only cares about things of they help him one way or another.

Trump does tons of stupid shit but I think it’s enormously disingenuous to say he doesn’t care about the economy. If there’s one thing he cares deeply about (other than himself) it’s the economy. His policies can certainly be questioned on their effectiveness or lack thereof but he’s literally obsessed with the economy.

He cares.about it for his selfish reasons. Not because he cares squat about its impact on others.
-
It's sad that Fart used the phrase "Trump cares about." Especially tonight.
We have our choice of videos to embed — interviews Trump did over the last 40 years — in which he states his positions clearly. He's pro-choice. He acknowledges that the economy tends to do better under Democrats.
Now that his Adderall addiction & old age have robbed him of his faculties, he's easily manipulated.

Nothing about Tony Bobulinski. Nothing about the f**cking China spy chief. Nothing about Operation August Hope.
Nothing in the Minneapolis Star Tribune either.
And nothing in the New York Post Twitter feed since they were locked out on Oct 14.
Nothing to see here.

There is a difference between not reporting on something and censoring. Twitter censored the NY Post story (that Fox News and the WSJ refused to touch). Mn is complaining about outlets not reporting on a story - which may, or may not, be "fake news." Not even Drudge has highlighted the story in question. But the bitching about it is the best part in light of everything that has transpired, including the president's refusal to sit for a deposition in the Mueller investigation and said obstruction of justice in that investigation.
-
Twitter hasn't censored, or blocked, this guy.

45 trafficked kids and 189 arrests would be a story in every news outlet in the country, if the President wasn't Trump.
Fox researched Bobulinski, and he came forward with tapes and emails after the Russian disinformation crock wasn't retracted. Thank you Adam Schiff. Bobulinski warned them, and gave them time to retract.
Probably not a good idea to piss off a veteran from a military family by saying he's peddling Russian disinformation.
I don't think the Flynn family is too happy either.
You can Google the f**cking China spy chief and Hunter Biden if it's not in Drudge, or WaPo, or NYT, or ABC, or NBC, or CBS, or CNN.

I am betting the Khomeni wack job doesn't get booted from The Twitter because he saves his best stuff for Iranian TV.
I took you up on the Googling, Big10 Mn, a few things I saw:
1. I've read that this guy is Q from QAnon in Newsweek.
2. There is a story on the guy in WaPo from 6 DAYS ago.
3. There is a story on the guy in the WSJ from 6 DAYS ago.
Who is hiding what?
Maybe they are hiding those kids at Comet Ping Pong pizza. When you get there, look for them in the basement. Don't believe them when they tell you there is no basement.
I don't know why Flynn is dragged into your post, but Flynn is going to jail (that is until The Handmaiden Cultist gets to vote on his case when it goes to the SCOTUS or Trump pardons him on his way out the door in January) for PLEADING GUILTY about lying to the FBI about talking to the Soviets.

There is a difference between not reporting on something and censoring.
Thinking back on my time at Morning Edition, it occurs to me that rejecting stories was the most consequential daily activity.
This was, and still is, one of America's biggest (audience) and most influential (credible, stories tend to get picked up by other outlets) news programs.
The daily morning meeting always had producers and editors from various departments (National Desk, Science, Arts & Entertainment, etc.) pitching stories.
In hindsight, I'm thinking about all the reporters whose work product made it to the pitch meeting, and died there.

I haven't seen "Russian disinformation" labeled as "lies" yet. I'm not sure Mr. Bobulinski would take too kindly to that.
He's the one on the left, with no stories today in CNN.com.
