Title: Bears vs Iggles
Post by: Reacher on December 18, 2022, 12:11:47 PM
Fields delivers strike to St. Brown. Hurt. 3 penalties in like first 4 plays.

I don’t usually do 50/50 bets but should have played the over. I expect a lot of points, especially for Philly. Wouldn’t be surprised if they put up close to 50 themselves.

48.5 seems like easy money.

Fuck, Tevin Jenkins getting carted off.

Nothing obvious. Hopefully just a stinger.

Jesus, Kmet caught from behind by a DE.

Nice hands, Pettis.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles

Hurts didn’t look like an MVP on that play. Terrible interception.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles
Post by: Reacher on December 18, 2022, 12:27:02 PM
Fields looking sharp so far. Pass to Pettis was ever so slightly behind him, but other than that perfect.

Fields has like 3-4 runs already halfway through 1st SMH.

JFC calm down on the Fields running plays FML
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles
Post by: Reacher on December 18, 2022, 12:32:39 PM
Could probably put that sack on Fields. Needs to find Jones crossing over the middle of the field. But you’ll get that when your QB is a touchdown to check down guy. Needs to throw that one.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles
Post by: Reacher on December 18, 2022, 12:36:43 PM
Oddly both offenses struggling out of the gate. I honestly think the designed runs by Fields are slowing the offense.

Jenkins with a neck injury will not return.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles

Nice pass outside the numbers by Fields (to Pettis).
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles
Post by: Reacher on December 18, 2022, 12:39:56 PM
Nice pass protection…shit call by Getsy. Offense making some plays but can’t sustain anything. Party due to play-calling IMO.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles

Still think there will be some points scored, but no 0-0 1st quarter hurts that over.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles

Great break up by Johnson.
Title: Re: Bears vs Iggles

Fields is outplaying the MVP favorite midway through 2nd quarter.

Kmet beaten badly on the outside, Fields fumbles. Recovered Bears.

Fields with another crazy run!

Fields is outplaying the MVP favorite midway through 2nd quarter.

You can say that again

PAMan’s guy Hurts throws a 2nd terrible interception. MVP award slipping away in real time.

Easily Fields’ worst pass there.

A couple minutes left in the first half and Fields has outplayed Hurts by a mile.

Wow, really?! I missed that.

Yeah I guess it was too windy for him to give it a shot. I don't think I've ever seen a kicker refuse a kick for something other than injury.

Add kicker to the list of offseason needs.

I don’t really want to see Fields running the rest of the day. Let’s work on short passing game.

Fields sacked again. 3 Eagles with 2 sacks already.

What we learned today:

NFC sucks. Means the NFC rep will probably win the Super Bowl.

Eagles may just only win the playoff bye week. They blow too. What an underwhelming performance.

150 yards passing and 90 yards passing net. Fields still can't pass worth a shit. At least he didn't throw it to the other team in the 4th quarter.

Need to draft a kicker as the current one sucks.

The offensive line literally can’t pass block. I’m not sure it would be an exaggeration to say there is immediate heavy pressure on 80% of 5 step drops. I saw Alex Leatherwood let his man run right by him two plays in a row.

In all seriousness, can anyone here remember a worse wr corps than what Justin Fields is working with right now in the last 15 years? On any team?

That’s not to say Fields is where he needs to be as a passer. He’s not. But I honestly cannot remember an offensive unit this bad, and yet they are still putting up 25-30 most games.

For one to look at this team and say “Justin Fields is the primary problem” is a moronically stupid take.

And yet your direct 98% of the criticism to Fields, and expect him to overcome this single-handedly. Your unreasonable expectations of him are literally the inspiration for my avatar.

98% is high, but it is the most important position on the team. The team sucks and he is not a good passer, yet, they could have been in the playoff hunt given the close games and 4th quarter leads they have had. Which goes to Custard's point.

Hyperbolic is saying “Justin Fields could have used a year standing next to Getsy.” And placing the majority of the Bears’ struggles on him. It’s asinine.

I’ve conceded many times Fields needs to improve in the passing game. But it’s hard to expect him to be highly proficient when they rarely do it. It’s either a RB run, QB run, or 5 step drop (which they can’t block). They need to run more quick hitters and work on the timing stuff.

There are reasons they are not doing that. Yes, the line is one of them. Yes, the receivers are another. And, again, the draft pick out of OSU is another.

I have advocated throwing 50 times a game so the kid can learn. I understand the perils of that. I also understand the perils of him continuing to run the current offense. Cam Newton took a beating and didn't last as long as he could have.

He needs to get better, particularly on the lateral throws. I’d love to see some slants, crossers, and RB/WR screens. They just don’t seem to run many of them. Just 3 step drop stuff where he’s required to get rid of it quickly. I don’t expect him to ever lead the league in snap to release time because that would be negating a skill he is very elite at. But he needs to improve on the short stuff, and he clearly has done so (still room for more improvement), but according to the VeryReasonableMan he’s shown no improvement at all. That’s blatantly false.

He and Cam aren’t directly comparable. Cam was basically a goal line back. They aren’t using Fields quite like that. Fields has actually taken less punishment since he’s been running IMO. But I agree, he can’t/shouldn’t be running 15-18x a game. That’s on the coaches, not him.

It’s also on the coaches when Cole Kmet is on an island against an elite pass rusher.

People have been saying for 20+ years now that dual threat QBs were the way of the future yet traditional QBs have won 8-9 of last 10 Super Bowls. And it’s always the same old story. Guy comes in and runs like crazy and people talk about how he needs to develop as a passer but most of the time they get wrecked before they ever get to that level of development, and the cycle continues. The ones that have succeeded in any kind of longish term way have been the ones that were either complete freaks of nature, were smart enough to not take as many big hits, or both.

I’ve said in this very forum that you have to be able to throw from the pocket when the game is on the line (and that’s why I think Lamar is a slightly flawed quarterback). Can Justin Fields get to the level of Mahomes or Allen? I don’t know. I hope so. Fields and Allen were not dissimilar their 2nd year. Running an offense where he runs as much as he passes is not going to aid in his development.

And I’ve tried explaining to you numerous times:

1) he doesn’t call the plays
2) they know they can’t pass block
3) they know their receivers suck
4) running the ball (something they do very well) helps a bad defense
5) and yes, Fields isn’t where he should be as a passer

What about those points do you not understand?

It sounds to me like you have an issue with coaching, not Fields. Yet I don’t ever hear you ridicule the coaches. Just Fields.

The coaches can only work with what they got. Getsy adapted to, among other things, having a guy at QB who is a Wingback. They scored far more points in so doing.

The defense sucks for a head coach who is a defensive guy.

At the end of the day, they don't trust Fields, the O line, or the receivers.

The thing is, Tempo, we agree on some things. My point is that Fields' limitations as a QB are now recognized by Getsy, ergo the change to the Wingback offense. You, on the other hand, blame Getsy for not calling more pass plays.

Worst front 7 (probably easily). Terrible pass blocking. Worst receiving corps I’ve probably ever seen (don’t think that’s an exaggeration); at least worst in memory. Quarterback who struggles to make simple throws (but also makes “wow” throws). Inexperienced secondary. And they’ve been in just about every game. This post is also quite hilarious. Thinking you could trade Mack, Quinn, and Smith off of this particular roster and not make it worse is golden. Here’s what I’m sure Poles was thinking. Get rid of any contracts that are underperforming and free up cap space. I’m sure Poles would have loved it if Quinn had been playing out of his mind. He’d have traded him for a 2nd rounder instead of a 4th.

When I say “by design” I don’t mean Poles literally did it to be bad. He did it “knowing” they would be bad. It’s not rocket surgery to understand the difference. His primary goal was to get rid of expensive contracts that wouldn’t be here or he didn’t value (Smith), turn them into assets, and compete 2-3 years later. That doesn’t mean anyone was “trying” to go 1-16.

Yeah, I saw the play. What’s your point?

That few NFL teams leave an entire section of the field defenseless against a QB who can run.

Now, this is the part where you make a comment about the McCaskeys and having a mouthful of Brown's Chicken, etc.

I have zero clue what your point is. But yeah, I agree it was a very bad play. George McCaskey’s fault? He shouldn’t have left his gap.

Playoffs?! Who cares about playoffs?! It’s like the NCAA tourney and Illini. If you don’t win it, it doesn’t matter. Amirite?!

AND there’s NO DAMN WAY the Bears have a shot at winning the Super Bowl this year, so what does it matter. Your own logic. So why settle for “mediocrity” and instead focus on the draft and building a team for the future…??

It's the NFL. Never can tell what is going to happen, who is going to get injured, etc. once you get in the playoffs.

I would also say that given how bad the QB has been at passing, he could use the extra week of practice that a playoff would bring, especially if the GM is just going to draft guys like Jones or Claypool anyway.

But this is a quality post, Judge Judy. Well done.

Fields looking sharp so far. Pass to Pettis was ever so slightly behind him, but other than that perfect.

Fields has like 3-4 runs already halfway through 1st SMH.

One of the disadvantages dinosaurs like you have in today’s world is that you fail to understand that people compile and share things like this (so your bullshit can be called out easily). Fast forward to 1:20 It was a pretty catchable ball that went right over his right arm. It went right over his right elbow.

Ok, the ball was 3 feet behind where it should have been to a guy moving towards the sideline. What's he doing throwing it to the field side instead of the sideline anyway ?

You can disagree with scientific consensus as long as you have more scientific study to back your opinion up. Otherwise your evidence is personal and anecdotal. Not the strongest scientific footing.

I’ve literally said multiple times it wasn’t a good throw. Being behind him (even slightly) would imply this. FFS

It was literally 15-18 inches from being a good (certainly decent) throw.

It was behind him as his momentum was going to the sideline and he twisted back for the ball. It was also thrown to the same side as the defender.

It would have been a very good catch given his full momentum going to the sideline. I would not expect Pettis, or anyone on the Bear except maybe Moody, to come up with it.

I would say the worst part of the throw is that he threw it inside where the defender was. He was open and if the ball is thrown to the sideline side it should have been a first down, though Pettis catching a ball is never guaranteed.

I would think JFC would want that one back. Throwing on the run obviously can be tough, especially where he had a limited window in which to throw given where the defender was. Hopefully he learns from it.

He’s definitely been better the last 6 weeks than he was the first 5. That’s not to say he’s been perfect, but when he’s got time most of his passes have been fine.
