WHEN: Oct 29 (Sat)
TIME: 2:30 PM CT
AGAINST: Nebraska
WHERE: Lincoln, Neb.
TV: ABC!
Sat, Oct 29
LINE OPEN: Illinois -6(!) o/u 52
Seen -5½ and 51 ½
Illini 5-13-1 historically against NE. Have a 2 game win streak. Let's make it 3!
-
This smells like a game previous Illini teams would lose.
-
Just for yucks.
The Huskers last game vs PUrdont.
476 yards in 17 minutes, 52 plays and 9.2 yards per play.
Small problem tho. They lost and PU rolled up 600+ yards.
Our defense may be a little busy.
AP #17, moved up 1, and gets an ABC game.
-
This smells like a game previous Illini teams would lose.
Wear your cup Saturday.
-
Now seeing Illini -7.5 and 50.5 on The VSIN.
-
This smells like a game previous Illini teams would lose.
Money flowing to the Illini has me wondering how to sport a double cup on Saturday.
-
Dave Pasch and Dusty Dvoracek doing the game.
Big10 road wins aren't often gimmes.
The fishwrap writer says "this trip is no gimme".
-
Nebraska isn’t the Nebraska that we saw earlier in the year with Frost at the helm.
-
Offensively I would agree, but their defense is just as bad now as it was then. They are atrocious on defense.
-
Little nervous about this one. Looks like a good matchup for us but still. Maybe it’s because it’s a game we should win and really need to win and I’m an Illinois fan with PTSD.
-
we will beat their sorry asses into the ground!!!!

We are still "Illinois" until we are not.

Just like they drew it up except for the XP
-
The announcers : let's see if they can get a stop on 3rd and 5.
Guess not.
🤣🤣🤣
-
About time someone threw a screen pass (and not one of those bubble screens).
-
Nebraska looks better than what Scott Frost was trotting out.
-
Nice line push 3rd and 1. Then a sack

This is the offensive game plan after a week off?
-
Lunney took a nap there
Can't nap during big boy football.
-
Why ice your own kicker?
-
Wtf are we doing?
-
What a fucking trainwreck
-
Way to ice your linemen
-
Wtf are we doing?
Illinois is Illinoising.
-
A turnover would be nice.
-
Michigan is going to beat the shit out of us.
-
This is looking like a defense that was the beneficiary of playing shit offenses.
-
Looks like 1 team came to play.
-
Everyone knew what was going to happen except Danny Devito
-
Nebraska is fired up and playing some good football
-
This isn’t good boys

This isn’t good boys
At least the run tackling has been decent

Gotta get to half time and make some adjustments.

Nebraska is garbage. Only reason we are not down 3 scores right now.

Dislocated finger ?
-
I don’t want to see that stupid WR screen thing ever again. Some of the run plays have been head scratchers. Toss to short side of field. Runs to the weak side into unblocked defenders. Doesn’t seem like the backs are hitting the line with a head of steam.
-
Well that was huge
-
Let's see what they did over the bye

TD Illini!
-
Just take the XP please
-
Sidney with the pick. Chase with the td.
What can Brown do for U.
-
Wow, a kickoff deep in the endzone
-
Mn, you have a Smothers Brothers joke in you....
-
Illinois should have this game with Nebraska’s QB out
-
Starting qb to the locker room, so run the 2nd stringer ?
-
Maybe Lunney decided to go with what brung ya. Brown between the tackles.
-
A sack or pick 6 obviously would be really bad here
-
Luke Ford sighting
-
Ouch
-
Not sure that was a block
-
Wide open..nice job men
-
Now we’re rolling. Let’s pick it up in the 2nd half
-
Damn that was a huge shift in momentum when it looked like we were being worked. Bullshit block in the back but didn’t matter. Two great play calls there to get 6 before the break. Hopefully Nebraska is deflated after losing their QB and giving up a 14-0 run to close the half.
-
Not sure that was a block
Reiman didnt think Ford could make a cut like that. Lol.
-
It just took a while to get our heads screwed on straight after the bye week.
This team seems to be able to handle some adversity. A defense can do that.

Brown with 80 yards.
I'm not sure it's good that McCray had 1 carry, then Love spelled Brown later.
-
Can't hit him there
-
On 2nd and 2.
-
Wtf Williams
-
Fuck yeah
-
2 picks for Brown.

Stupid ass penalties and the jawing gonna cost us a game one of these weeks

They didn't punch Riemer, so that is something
-
Good thing the arm tackling negated by the penalty
-
A 2nd half shutout would be tremendous.
-
Looked like he had time to surveil the field.
-
30 yards for Nebraska in the 3rd.
I hope Tempo didnt have to listen to the announcers talking about how DeVito says the trash coach has made him a better qb.

I heard that about a third of the team is from SEC land. Lovie got guys from down there.

Time to let Love and, if he is still on the team, McCray play.

I think McCray got a carry, and said 'I'm not good yet'.

Nebraska has lost a yard this quarter.
Defense gives up 29 yards in the 2nd half.

Trash.
He can still be a trash individual and still be a good coach. In fact, I’m sure that describes many football and basketball coaches.

So how/why do you consider him trash?

Sounds like posters here.
-
So how/why do you consider him trash?
Bielema made a factual statement about roster depth and a bunch of choads with no sense of context ran with it as a complete slam against the roster in general.
-
18 October 2021: llini Bret Bielema not holding back about his roster today, especially OL:
"I don't believe we have a player in the 2-deep that they've recruited here over the last 3 years that is really significantly doing anything for us in the playing department, that's a major concern"
A year makes a big difference.
-
Bielema made a factual statement about roster depth and a bunch of choads with no sense of context ran with it as a complete slam against the roster in general.
It went beyond that, he said “as a coach, you’re only as good as your roster.” Which is a clear and unnecessary slam of his players.
I later in that thread conceded I was being a bit harsh calling him “trash,” but I think we can agree that Bielema doesn’t ooze grace and class. I don’t have a problem with a coach saying “we need more talent,” I just didn’t care for the way he said it all. I thought it was totally uncalled for.
My perception of him has improved some because I think he’s tried to soften the edges a bit, or at least it seems that way to me. I haven’t heard him say anything I found lacking class or dissing his team, or even anyone else’s.
-
So how/why do you consider him trash?
See above post. And again, I conceded in that thread that calling him “trash” was probably a bit much.
-
Took a look at that old thread, that one was a classic. I created the alt “NotTempo34,” and Custard trotted out Mike Leach, Mike Singletary, Brian Kelly, and Chip Kelly as “examples” of coaches publicly throwing their players under the bus. All coaches with sullied reputations. Jobu lost his mind, and I stood up for Halloween candy (sort of). If we had a HOF that thread would be in it.
-
He can still be a trash individual and still be a good coach. In fact, I’m sure that describes many football and basketball coaches.
Lol.

Lol.

He may or may not be trash, I don’t know. All I can judge him by is what I see. And since then, he’s been fine as far as I can tell. One thing I’m fairly confident of, Bielema won’t be remembered for his class and dignity. But that’s not really the #1 assignment.
-
But I will stand by my claim that that was about the most blatant bus-tossing of players I’ve ever seen from a coach, especially mid-season.
-
Is Robb still MIA?
-
I can't believe nobody wanted to talk about DeVito's great game. 20-22 for 179 yards. And the 2 incompletions were throwaways because the receiver was covered.
And add in his 44 yards on the ground.
-
Lastly, about Bielema; I didn’t have a positive perception of him before he came here (and I’d bet that negative perception was common among Illinois fans), and unlike with some of the homers here that didn’t change the day he was hired at Illinois. I conceded that calling him “trash” over that incident was a bit harsh, and I feel like he’s conducted himself well here since. People, and perceptions can change. But like I said, my perception of him didn’t change the minute he took the Illinois job.
-

Agreed. He is certainly being undervalued to this team and deserves WAY more recognition than he is getting.

If I didn't know better, I would think guys are rooting for Danny to fail.

Talking theoretically. Again, I don’t know if he’s trash.

At best, you could get me on using “can” instead of “could.”
-
If I didn't know better, I would think guys are rooting for Danny to fail.
Can’t say I follow the Illini football threads that closely, but I’m betting he hasn’t taken nearly the amount of criticism as Justin Fields has here. Anything I can recall seeing is we’ve been pretty grateful to have “Danny.”
-
And before you go down that road, I don’t think it’s (all) rooted in the fact that Fields is black. I think no small portion of it stems from Trubisky era PTSD.
-

Wait. You throw the race card, then say "before you go down that road." Dude, you just went down that road. Find one post I have made that mentions race with regard to Justin Fields and his ability. I have actually been very complimentary of his play these last couple weeks. I did bring up his questionable at best decision to hurdle Parsons, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.
As far as Danny, he's done well. You probably don't remember, but I constantly fired on Brandon Peters and Wes Cunt. Because they sucked. If Danny sucked, I would fire on his ass too.
-
Agreed. He is certainly being undervalued to this team and deserves WAY more recognition than he is getting.
A more athletic Tom Brady.
-
🍿🍿
-
I didn’t “pull the race card.” But I do think that old perceptions still linger, and I can’t say with certainty that I don’t fall into those traps occasionally. If I was a Bills fan, would I have been as patient with early 2nd year Josh Allen if he was black? I can’t say for sure. It’s not intentional IMO, but the perception that black QBs don’t read the field well (effective pocket passers) or are better as runners still infects a large portion of the population. For example, I’m not convinced Lamar or Kyler are all that good from the pocket, but I often wonder if it’s because they aren’t, or if old perceptions affect my opinions more than they should.
-

No real idea what your point is here. You’re willing to say a sucky qb sucks? Kudos to you, I guess.
-

Well at least he calls it like he sees it.
You’re conflicted as to whether they suck or well…they’re just black, it appears.

Ok, Chief.

PTSD seems to be getting more pervasive these days.

Why are you judging a coach on how he acts?
His job is to win games. That’s it.
-

He reminds me of Jimmy Garappolo. He’s a good enough QB to not lose you the game.
But I think the key to Illinois is the line play. The offensive line has been phenomenal. They rarely let Devito get pressured and always get a good push for Chase.
Bret Bielema is getting the absolute most out of this roster. He’s maximized it. The defense has developed a bunch of pros since he got here, and the offense is at least adequate. It’s the best coaching job from any Illini coach I’ve ever seen. The last coaching job comparable was Lon Kruger’s 1997 Big 10 champ squad.

Coaches that win games and aren’t asshats do exist. They might be in the minority, but they exist:
Who?
Let’s look at some winning coaches.
Nick Saban
Urban Meyer
Jim Harbaugh
PJ Fleck
Brian Kelly
Lincoln Riley
Dabo Swinney
Josh Heupel
How are any of these guys better personalities than Bielema? They are all trying for the same thing.
Tempo you’re the type of fan that deserves Grandpa Lovie. Don’t even enjoy this football season
Aren’t you a huge Underwood fan? The guy is one of the cockiest Gene Keady like assholes I’ve ever seen who hasn’t won Jack shit

You were doing fine until you asked him about Underwood, lol. He is definitely not a huge Underwood fan.
-
Again, I said they were in the minority. But it’s certainly not a requirement that a successful coach act like a douche. Underwood has toned down his act. I think he came in thinking he had to impress people with what a hardass he was, but I’m guessing he learned that wasn’t necessary after all.

Then name one nice guy football coach that wins at a high level
