Sucks we gotta listen to Bilas tonight. Yuck
-
Damonte is a sniper lately
-
Very promising start!
-
do we not practice free throws?
-
great start
-
Gotta keep at it. Duke and their refs will make an inevitable run.
-
Miller's got the stroke
-
Once Curbello cleans it up, watch out
-
Just terrible, Trent
-
Glad the guy with the alt-right haircut for Duke got sent to the bench....
-
got slippy
-
Really good half!
-
Great half. Keep up the defensive intensity in the second half, watch the fouls, keep moving the ball. Curbelo is a spark plug.

Have listened to a few Bilas games this year. I find him infinitely more listenable than he used to be. Always felt he was a little pedantic and robotic in the past. I kinda feel like he’s taken a page out of the SVP playbook with his entire persona and demeanor. I actually think I’m listening to SVP sometimes when he’s calling a game. Just much more laid back. Gives some great insight, some history, some humor.

Damn, you convinced me to like him. That was some fucking great analysis!
-
Kofi's gotta go up stronger with that.
-
Here comes Duke
-
Right on cue, the refs are getting Duke back in it.
Even Bilas is calling them out.
-
How many times is Cockburn going to get blocked?
-
The great analytic minds of college basketball coaching have realized Kofi’s only move in the post with his back to the basket is to slowly turn around with his elbows up and try to overpower his opponent with a two handed heave. It gives the defense a ton of time to double and strip him or block him. If he had Giorgi’s footwork he’d be unstoppable. Or if Giorgi was built like Kofi. But then we’d only have 5 fouls instead of 10 at that position.
-
All right guys time to dig in and finish this off
-
I’m in love with Curbelo😍
-
Curbelo is way too balls to the wall. Slow it down. You gotta burn clock now.
-

He wants to show off and show out. Dude is gonna be scary good.
-
We're gonna fucking do it, aren't we?
I got goosebumps yo
-
Too bad there wasn't a packed house to watch Illinois run over Duke. Of course, it might have been a closer game if fans had been allowed in Camper Von Beethoven Arena.
-
Good double digit win, at Cameron.
-
We took Duke's punch and punched them back. Previous years we would have pissed down our collective legs and blown this one.
-
Good double digit win, at Cameron.
This is a good team. Very good
-
Controlled the game start to finish save a minute or two. Underwood coached a great game IMO. The offense looked cohesive when we aren’t playing the best defensive backcourt in the country. Happy for the players and staff. They’ve come a long long ways.
-
Nice game all around. I can’t remember the last time we beat a good team that convincingly while getting homered that badly.
-
Duke is bad. We had nearly 20 turnovers and still held a double digit advantage start to finish. Nice to see scoring so evenly balanced, but really felt like we should have won by more. Duke may not win half their games this year.
-
2020 totally redeemed
-
Sucks we gotta listen to Bilas tonight. Yuck
Why?
-
Why?
Not a fan
-
I didn't mind Bilas. I especially loved when he started clowning the refs on their bullshit calls.

I did enjoy him ripping the refs a new ass. He flat out told the truth.
He must’ve been drunk or high. Going on some Bill Walton tangents. Talking about unicorns and shit. 😂
-
Good solid work. All credit to the players for more consistent effort on both sides of ball.
We shot 58%. That will make up for a lot of other things.....
We hit threes early and Duke simply cannot shoot. They sht the bed on threes vs MSU also.
Worst offensive team they have had in awhile. I knew they were slightly down, but they are kind of a mess.
If the name on the jersey was something else I would say they are Top 30 team at best.
I am sure they will get better.
We can be good. There are enough pieces if staff can sort it out.
There was a shift to play Ayo more off the ball it appeared.
Have to get Kofi going.
Most improved player is DaMonte. Makes plays. Plays hard every second.
-
BReal is still Damonte dumb
-
BReal is still Damonte dumb
My complaint about him before was he was only a slightly above average defender and contributed nothing on offense. Didn't even look at the basket.
He started to look to shoot at end of last year, and now again this year. His form has improved a lot and is actually solid. He requires them to guard him now.
He is solid defender and rebounder. Too small in some matchups at the 4 but pretty good feet.
20 mpg is about right like tonight. I don't care if he starts if that is what staff want, but do not want him out there 33 minutes like at Baylor.

If we got as many FTs as we should have, we would have won by more.
Duke will be fine. They aren’t a top 10 team by any means, but they may be a borderline top 25 team.
-
Big Ten would have had a clean 7-0 sweep against the ACC tonight if not for the Boilers gag job.

This morning on the ESPN page.

No respect.

great win!

The difference between the quality of Baylor and the quality of Duke was obvious. Thought UI played well last night, except for the turnovers and Kofi. That said, as I mentioned last year Curbelo is going to be the truth. I think he'll be the most impactful player for UI since Deron by the time he leaves.
Ayo wasn't spectacular but was consistent. Damonte with a great game, a three and d guy now which is exactly what this team needs. Trent's handle has disappeared. That's a bit concerning.
They have to figure out a way to defend the pick and roll better. Baylor buried them on it. They played it a little firmer tonight but it was still very meh. Kofi just doesn't have the foot speed for it. I think they should go a few possessions zone here and there to change up the other team's rhythm.
Speaking of Kofi, these last few games have shown why he's a marginal (at best) NBA prospect. Can't defend P&R or perimeter switches, and he's got no quick twitch ability. Always has to gather himself. And he not even attacking the bucket with consistency anymore. Hopefully he gets back to it.
Miler is an assassin with other aspects to his game. Doesn't seem like a freshman out there, already decent on defense and doesn't make too many youthful mistakes.
-
Duke made a short run on us in the 1st half when they cranked up the defense. We got a little out of kilter on both ends, until we said wtf and cranked our defense back up to the way we started the game.
We let Baylor dictate too much tempo against us, and didn't let Duke do that to us. At Cameron. This one takes a lot of sting out of losing to a very good Baylor team.

Baylor dictated tempo because they are an elite defensive team for this time of year. They were just better than UI and wore them down.

Couldn't agree more. I don't care if he starts but want him on floor at closing time.

I agree entirely. Hopefully we learned from what Baylor did to us and that allowed us to punch back at Duke. One game at a time, but our response to Duke is encouraging. It may not have happened if not for the Baylor game.

Curbelo and Miller are going to be an awesome duo, need more young bigs to pair with them

Krzyzewski said, adding that he's "not sure who leads college basketball."
Oh, stfu. 😭😭
-
Duke has good length and athleticism. We were playing with multiple ball handlers out there, and they still gave us trouble. They should press a lot this year.
Kofi needs to learn to use his left hand. Giorgi needs to learn that sometimes, the right move is just to go up strong, and not every bucket needs a dozen ball fakes. Both of them are going to be great this year though.
I liked Miller hustling after that ball out of bounds. There was some concern that he might be a prima donna, but he looks like a winner to me.

And Dickie V doesn't understand why everyone hates Duke?

Really damn proud of Damonte. He’s come a long way from throwing stupid passes late in games and missing badly on threes or not even looking for the ball at all. He’s just playing with a ton more confidence on both sides of the court now. It’s fun to see.
Loved the play where he blocked an easy Duke alley oop just when it looked they were going to make a run late. It swung the momentum back on our side and we never looked back.
-
A statement win.
Biggest win since when? Beating #1 Indiana in TNT's first year, maybe?
-
Curbelo and Miller are going to be an awesome duo, need more young bigs to pair with them
They will be the best two guard combo we will have since Dee and Deron.
Actually maybe even more natural PG/SG combo. Would love to keep them 3 years together. Miller could go early though is my guess.
-
Duke just cancelled the rest of their non-conference games because of the ass whooping we just put on them :D
-
I'm old enough to remember when the question would be, "so you're forfeiting?"
-
"Duke's loss to Illinois was the team's largest nonconference home loss under Krzyzewski."
-
"Duke's loss to Illinois was the team's largest nonconference home loss under Krzyzewski."
That is impressive. Fck Duke.
-
Wow, Coach K is a fuckin' pussy.
This is sort of like a condensed version of the year he took off for medical reasons when the team just happened to go 2-14 in conference.
-

There was something else notable.
"Coach K is now 300-11 all-time in non-conference games at Cameron Indoor. Two of those 11 losses have come in the past week (Michigan State, Illinois), and the Illini are the only non-ACC team with multiple wins (1995, 2020)."
Also, Coach K is a bitch.

I think he knows that his team sucks and doesn't want his record tarnished, just like his "medical reasons leave" season like you said

Alabama basketball coach (yes, the Tide apparently has a basketball team) is questioning Coach K, too:

Thanks for posting that. Took me back to my early teenage years and heard some names I hadn’t heard in quite awhile. Some of my favorite players growing up. RIP Matt Heldman

Dickie V on ESPN calling the Duke-ND game and defending Ratface for making this comments after the Illini game. He told me he wanted to cancel 5 months ago, etc...🙄 shut up please.

This Duke win is good for the Illini
-
This Duke win is good for the Illini
Yeah win a bunch and make that win look even better.
-
Makes me want to vomit rooting for Duke and Vitale was just gross last night.
-
Oh I am by no means rooting for them but if they do win at least it’s helpful.
-
oh I agree we need them to win out.
