Duke made a short run on us in the 1st half when they cranked up the defense. We got a little out of kilter on both ends, until we said wtf and cranked our defense back up to the way we started the game.
We let Baylor dictate too much tempo against us, and didn't let Duke do that to us. At Cameron. This one takes a lot of sting out of losing to a very good Baylor team.

Baylor dictated tempo because they are an elite defensive team for this time of year. They were just better than UI and wore them down.

My complaint about him before was he was only a slightly above average defender and contributed nothing on offense. Didn't even look at the basket.
He started to look to shoot at end of last year, and now again this year. His form has improved a lot and is actually solid. He requires them to guard him now.
He is solid defender and rebounder. Too small in some matchups at the 4 but pretty good feet.
20 mpg is about right like tonight. I don't care if he starts if that is what staff want, but do not want him out there 33 minutes like at Baylor.

Couldn't agree more.  I don't care if he starts but want him on floor at closing time.

I agree entirely. Hopefully we learned from what Baylor did to us and that allowed us to punch back at Duke. One game at a time, but our response to Duke is encouraging. It may not have happened if not for the Baylor game.

The difference between the quality of Baylor and the quality of Duke was obvious. Thought UI played well last night, except for the turnovers and Kofi. That said, as I mentioned last year Curbelo is going to be the truth. I think he'll be the most impactful player for UI since Deron by the time he leaves.

Ayo wasn't spectacular but was consistent. Damonte with a great game, a three and d guy now which is exactly what this team needs. Trent's handle has disappeared. That's a bit concerning.

They have to figure out a way to defend the pick and roll better. Baylor buried them on it. They played it a little firmer tonight but it was still very meh. Kofi just doesn't have the foot speed for it. I think they should go a few possessions zone here and there to change up the other team's rhythm.

Speaking of Kofi, these last few games have shown why he's a marginal (at best) NBA prospect. Can't defend P&R or perimeter switches, and he's got no quick twitch ability. Always has to gather himself. And he not even attacking the bucket with consistency anymore. Hopefully he gets back to it.

Miler is an assassin with other aspects to his game. Doesn't seem like a freshman out there, already decent on defense and doesn't make too many youthful mistakes.

Curbelo and Miller are going to be an awesome duo, need more young bigs to pair with them

Duke has good length and athleticism. We were playing with multiple ball handlers out there, and they still gave us trouble. They should press a lot this year.

Kofi needs to learn to use his left hand. Giorgi needs to learn that sometimes, the right move is just to go up strong, and not every bucket needs a dozen ball fakes. Both of them are going to be great this year though.

I liked Miller hustling after that ball out of bounds. There was some concern that he might be a prima donna, but he looks like a winner to me.

Krzyzewski said, adding that he's "not sure who leads college basketball."
Oh, stfu. 😭😭

And Dickie V doesn't understand why everyone hates Duke?

Good solid work. All credit to the players for more consistent effort on both sides of ball.
We shot 58%. That will make up for a lot of other things.....
We hit threes early and Duke simply cannot shoot. They sht the bed on threes vs MSU also.
Worst offensive team they have had in awhile. I knew they were slightly down, but they are kind of a mess.
If the name on the jersey was something else I would say they are Top 30 team at best.
I am sure they will get better.

We can be good. There are enough pieces if staff can sort it out.
There was a shift to play Ayo more off the ball it appeared.
Have to get Kofi going.

Most improved player is DaMonte. Makes plays. Plays hard every second.

Really damn proud of Damonte. He’s come a long way from throwing stupid passes late in games and missing badly on threes or not even looking for the ball at all. He’s just playing with a ton more confidence on both sides of the court now. It’s fun to see.

Loved the play where he blocked an easy Duke alley oop just when it looked they were going to make a run late. It swung the momentum back on our side and we never looked back.

A statement win.

Biggest win since when?  Beating #1 Indiana in TNT's first year, maybe?

They will be the best two guard combo we will have since Dee and Deron.
Actually maybe even more natural PG/SG combo. Would love to keep them 3 years together. Miller could go early though is my guess.

I'm old enough to remember when the question would be, "so you're forfeiting?"

"Duke's loss to Illinois was the team's largest nonconference home loss under Krzyzewski."
