Might have to start listening to the Score again.
Actually, nah. Probably not.
-
Outside of about 20 minutes a couple mornings ago I haven’t listened in 6 months. Parkins is actually good at his job, though. That’s why he is getting a NY job on national TV.
-

Parkins is good at the hot take bullshit. Plus, it didn't hurt that Nick Wright is his friend.
I'm sure he'll do fine.
-
His hot takes are miles better than Skip Bayless’.
-
Skip was great at riling people up, though.
-

Is that what that means?! I guess Trump got elected President…
See the fallacy?!
And Stephen A. Smith is on ESPN, so…
I guess that settles it. They all must be good!
-
He's good at his job, but Tempo stopped listening to him.....

Tempo got in a fight with him on Twitter. Around the time Parkins flipped on his boy and went with Caleb.
Parkins was a huge Nagy fan. Until he wasn't. And he was a huge Fields fan. Until he wasn't. He's not good at his job. Anyone can do what he does. He just had some breaks go his way.
Nick Wright got him a job. That's pretty much it.
-
I think Holmes is every bit as talented as Parkins. Yet he hasn't had the same opportunities.
Interesting.
-
Jobu still stalking my Twitter feed, I guess. I didn’t have a problem with most of the content, I just felt like towards the end a few people on The Score were doing all they could to troll Fields supporters (Parkins and Gabe Ramirez were the worst about it IMO). It felt very Skip Bayless to me. I didn’t care for it.
And to be perfectly honest, once Fields was traded there wasn’t much interesting discussion to be had. Baseball talk bores the eff out of me (and this was the perfect year to avoid baseball discussion in Chicago another worked out well). I was actually curious myself to see if I would continue not listening once football heated up. I suspect I’ll listen once the season gets closer.

I’d agree. He’s done a lot outside of The Score locally. He’s on TV all the time. Not sure what national attention he’s gotten, if any.

No, not at all. I looked at Parkins feed. And you were on it. That's where I saw it. Just to be clear.
You liked Parkins, until you didn't. Parkins has always been Skip Bayless. The only difference is you didn't mind it until you disagreed with him.

Probably hasn't gotten any. He doesn't have friends like Nick Wright.
-
Doesn't matter, really. I'm glad he's gone.
-
Parkins fan boys from time to time, but that’s part of what makes listening to him fun IMO. I’d rather have a little of that than Bernstein and Holmes (I can no longer root for the team, I’m a journalist). I like someone who can walk that fine line and I think Parkins mostly does. He’s had a few takes blow up spectacularly, but he’s also had some really clever takes that spark great debate. Parkins is willing to put himself out there, and I’m ok with that.
-
Parkins will do good with taking the side the network tells him to take.
-
Is Nick Wright a king maker? From what I can tell Parkins started interacting with Colin Cowherd and I think he made an impression on him. That’s why Cowherd had him sub for him on his show.

Eh. I can see not being a fan boy. They need to be objective. Guys like Joniak and Thayer should be fan boys.
-

Pretty sure Wright and Cowherd are tight. That's why Cowherd started interacting with him.
-
Like all businesses, it's all about who you know. Talent only gets you so far.
-
I don’t have the unrealistic expectation that my local sports guy should nail every take and prediction to be credible.
-
Again, I think Parkins impressed Cowherd in some on-air conversations they had, and that got this ball rolling.
-
Good points by Jobu. Had forgotten that Tempo got pissed at The Score when they, belatedly, turned on Fields. Guess his duels with the CHCGO, or whatever they are called, guys overtook in my recollection Tempo's issues with The Score guys. So many feuds, so little time.
-
The word is he is buddies with the doofus who always wears 3 piece suits on the ads for The FS1.
-
I don’t have the unrealistic expectation that my local sports guy should nail every take and prediction to be credible.
I never said they need to be right, or need to nail every take. I just have zero respect for the profession as a whole. Our opinions can differ.
-
Again, I think Parkins impressed Cowherd in some on-air conversations they had, and that got this ball rolling.
Probably. And his friendship with Nick Wright also was a factor, I'm sure.
-
So many feuds, so little time.
PAMan serving himself a very large plate of irony.
-
Is Nick Wright even that big of a deal? Colin Cowherd is a giant in the industry (like it or not). Personally, I don’t watch either.
-
I just have zero respect for the profession as a whole.
Why?
-
Why?
We've been over this before. I have no respect for hot take bullshit and talking heads. I just don't care for it. These people are not genuine. I don't like people who are not genuine.
-
None of them are genuine?
-
Is Nick Wright even that big of a deal? Colin Cowherd is a giant in the industry (like it or not). Personally, I don’t watch either.
I have no idea. He seems to garner some respect. He's been on national shows several times. Him and Parkins went to school together, I think.
-
None of them are genuine?
Nope. To me, it's like pro wrestling. A big fucking soap opera.
-
He and Nick Wright are best friends. Maybe Nick Wright has that kind of pull, I don’t know. But it’s pretty clear Colin Cowherd likes him, and I’m pretty sure he has a lot of pull.
-

Ok. I'm not arguing with you, lol. And I really don't care all that much. Good for Parkins.
-
Nope. To me, it's like pro wrestling. A big fucking soap opera.
National shows are like that. One of the reasons I don’t watch national shows. Plus, I don’t give a shit about the Eagles and Cowboys unless they are on that night.
I do like listening to discussion on my favorite local teams (mostly the Bears).
-
Trying to think of a national host I really like. I guess I like Emmanuel Acho, but I don’t watch him outside of a clip here and there from the Internet. I loved Jim Rome’s radio show back in the late 90s, but that’s when I lived in San Antonio and couldn’t get Bears talk.
-
I’ve never liked Laurence Holmes going back to when he’d shit all over one of the best programs in basketball (Illini) then act like DePaul was anything but a fucking disaster. I argued with him on the phone sitting on my back porch off the air one time until he got so flustered he hung up on me. We also had some epic text battles back in the late aughts.
-
Might have to start listening to the Score again.
Actually, nah. Probably not.
I'm pretty done with sports radio. We had to listen to it when we could only get 2 NFL games a week and a couple baseball games. Now you can get real sports anytime you want, no need to listen to douchebags like Bayless or the loonies with nicknames like "Beano Dave from Worcester!" that call in daily.

PAMan serving himself a very large plate of irony.
I don't have feuds with anyone. I am just explaining why I'm right.

Custard calling and texting Larry Holmes must have been something to behold back in the day.

This sounds very believable. He went to U of I for like 3 weeks and left because he thought the campus was racist (or something to that effect). He definitely wasn’t pro-Illini.
-
I remember having an exchange with Laurence on the Illini as well. He basically said “enjoy being Purdue,” because Weber was our coach. He didn’t really turn out to be wrong, but I did respond to him that he wishes DePaul were Purdue.

That was a good one, Tempo.

The wind was blowing out of the south one day, and he could smell the south farms. So that made DePaul a better option.
I shit you not. He said that.
-
He was very much drafting off the wildly popular B&B at that time and had adopted their schtick to some degree. Very snarky and dismissive of Illini hoops, but took DePaul very seriously. I remember being caught off guard that he seemed to be genuinely hurt when I laid his hypocrisy bare.
-

If you call him Larry he gets mad. I do know that.
-
That’s because it’s not his name.
-
That’s because it’s not his name.
Larry is not the commonly used short form of Lawrence, Laurence, etc.?
-
Larry is not the commonly used short form of Lawrence, Laurence, etc.?
For some people. Would some rando call Michael Jordan “Mikey” to his face without being a presumptuous douchebag?
-
The name someone goes by isn’t for you to pick and choose which option you like.
-
That’s because it’s not his name.
I realize that. Did I say he didn't have a right to be mad about it or not like it?
I swear to fuck. You just look for arguments. It's really hard to just post on here.
-

What if they called him "Mike?"
-
The name someone goes by isn’t for you to pick and choose which option you like.
I don't think I want to live in a country where Golf can't call me "PAThey."
-
Tempo, you're right. I was out of line. I shouldn't have made the comment about Laurence not liking to be called Larry. I really need to be careful about what I'm posting. I'm really sorry.
-
Honestly. I have to be on guard for even the most innocent of posts. It's fucking exhausting.
And people wonder why people disappear from here from time to time. Jesus Fucking Christ.
Oh shit. I mentioned Christianity. Here comes another onslaught.
-

Meh, fuck WScore Larry Holmes. He sucks. Hates the Illini. Screw that Larry hating POS.
-
Meh, fuck WScore Larry Holmes. He sucks. Hates the Illini. Screw that Larry hating POS.
No, I was obviously disrespectful. I apologize. I hope this forum can recover.
-
Way too much apologizing going on here these days. We have 2+ months of election and Illini football crap to argue about.
-
I realize that. Did I say he didn't have a right to be mad about it or not like it?
I swear to fuck. You just look for arguments. It's really hard to just post on here.
I wasn’t arguing. And I’m not the one blowing my lid over it.
-
Stop taking everything so personally.

Tempo, you're right. I was out of line. I shouldn't have made the comment about Laurence not liking to be called Larry. I really need to be careful about what I'm posting. I'm really sorry.
Where did I say you were out of line? All I said is that he doesn’t like being called Larry because that’s not his name.
-
What if they called him "Mike?"
From what I know about him, I think he’d find that acceptable from some people, but not all people. If you know him intimately, he might not be bothered by it. I’m just making a best guess, here. I don’t know for sure. But people should call him by the name he chooses to be called by regardless.
-
Honestly. I have to be on guard for even the most innocent of posts. It's fucking exhausting.
And people wonder why people disappear from here from time to time. Jesus Fucking Christ.
Oh shit. I mentioned Christianity. Here comes another onslaught.
Persecution complex in full display. And you claim you’re not sensitive. All I said is he doesn’t like it because it’s not his name. You’re the one blowing this all out of proportion.
-
What about calling someone by their first name even though they want to be called by their middle name? I had a roommate who used his middle name.
-
Persecution complex in full display. And you claim you’re not sensitive. All I said is he doesn’t like it because it’s not his name. You’re the one blowing this all out of proportion.
You were looking for a confrontation. It's fucking exhausting.

Where did I say you were out of line? All I said is that he doesn’t like being called Larry because that’s not his name.
Oh, come on. That was a "you're a dick" moment. Stop with the bullshit.
-
What about calling someone by their first name even though they want to be called by their middle name? I had a roommate who used his middle name.
You call someone what they wish to be called by. The only reason not to would be to disrespect them.
-
Hey, for the record. Laurence Holmes doesn't like to be called Larry. I commented on it. I'm an asshole.
-
Oh, come on. That was a "you're a dick" moment. Stop with the bullshit.
You’re being overly sensitive again. All I said was (paraphrased), “(Of course he doesn’t like being called Larry), because that’s not his name.” Sorry if you took that as some sort of personal attack.
-
Hey, for the record. Laurence Holmes doesn't like to be called Larry. I commented on it. I'm an asshole.
Will the persecution of Jobu never cease?
-
You call someone what they wish to be called by. The only reason not to would be to disrespect them.
And Laurence has disrespected a number of people that he has come across. Hell, Custard has outlined how Laurence was disrespectful to him.
Anyway, again, pointless arguments.
-
The resident fuck your feelings guy sure seems to get hurt in the feelings a lot.
-
Will the persecution of Jobu never cease?
Oh, come on Tempo. You're really acting like you've never been persecuted?
Stop, dude.
-
The resident fuck your feelings guy sure seems to get hurt in the feelings a lot.
If you're referring to me, I'm not that dude. And you know that. You need to slow down.
-
My point was people should be called what they want to be called. I didn’t rebuke you in any way. I made what I felt was a pretty obvious and benign comment.
-
My point was people should be called what they want to be called. I didn’t rebuke you in any way. I made what I felt was a pretty obvious and benign comment.
No, that's not what you were doing. But I'm not going to fight about it.
I agree. People should be called what they want to be called. And if I want to be called Ernest, I should fucking be able to be called Ernest.
-
It’s great when you and Judy (and sometimes Mn) go out of your way to be offended by something (usually fairly benign) that I said.
-

I am not offended. No hurt feelings here
-
The complaining about micro aggressions seems to work for Trump.
-
I mean, why would I be offended during a conversation about Score idiots? That would be kinda weird.
My grandpa Ernest would tell me to shut the fuck up. And I would say yeah, Grandpa Ernest, you're right. I'll shut the fuck up.
-
If you're referring to me, I'm not that dude. And you know that. You need to slow down.
If you’re interpreting that in the political context, no you are not that guy. But you’ve made your reputation here as a guy who thinks sensitivity is for pussies. At least in terms of what’s “said” here.
-
You were looking for a confrontation. It's fucking exhausting.
No, I think you were. I was just stating a fairly obvious point (that isn’t always obvious to everyone).
-
No, I think you were. I was just stating a fairly obvious point (that isn’t always obvious to everyone).
Nope. I really wasn't. We can stop now.

No, I think you were. I was just stating a fairly obvious point (that isn’t always obvious to everyone).
For example, I was 80% sure PAMan would comment on it when I said it. He didn’t disappoint.

Hmm. I'll have to think this one over. I struggle to imagine a time where I said that. I mean, you're the one who put up the rape porn on here. So maybe you should slow your roll a little bit.
-
This is the kind of shit that makes people want to leave. That's all I have to say about it.
-
For example, I was 80% sure PAMan would comment on it when I said it. He didn’t disappoint.
You are the straw that stirs the drink here. I figure I have disappointed you enough already.

Rape porn? Sure it wasn’t just hard fucking?

No small amount of women enjoy being fucked hard FTR.
-
Rape porn? Sure it wasn’t just hard fucking?
It is what it is. I came back here. Now I want to leave again.
I should have known better. This place can definitely wear people out.
-
Stop being so dramatic. All I was trying to convey is that we should call people what they wish to be called, not what we wish to call them. Sorry if you found that to be a personal attack.
-
No, that's not all you were doing. I'm out. Fuck this. See ya.
-
Rape porn? Sure it wasn’t just hard fucking?
Hope that made you feel better about yourself.
-
No, that's not all you were doing. I'm out. Fuck this. See ya.
You’re right. I merely said “because that’s not his name.” But INSIDE I was screaming “Jobu, you are an asshole and this post is directly aimed at YOU!” Your PSYCHOanalysis is spot on, Dr. Freud.
