So yesterday I went for a walk around the neighborhood (that’s when I fired off multiple posts). I have conceded that Fields holds the ball too long. It’s a bit worse than I thought. Having said that, everything else is quite a bit worse than I thought, and I already thought it was pretty bad.
It may surprise you guys to hear this, but I am disappointed that the Bears didn’t bring in someone to keep Justin’s feet warm. I would have been all for trading for Trey Lance.
I am also convinced that they have coached some of the aggressiveness out of his game. If they haven’t, then here’s what they should do. Go to him and say “Let it rip, we’ll live with it.” And if he doesn’t let it rip, you bench him and say “We’ll put you back in when you’re ready to start throwing it.” Simple fucking fix IMO.
I know some people don’t want to hear this, but winning should be of co-importance to developing Fields this year. What did the Colts do with Manning when they were rebuilding? They let him throw the fuck out of it, and lived with the mistakes. Obviously, he was Peyton Manning, so he was bound to be good. But I firmly believe it accelerated his learning curve. Take the fucking training wheels off. We need to know now. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is the coaching staff to coach Justin up. Not from what I’m seeing so far.
