At the request of a 22 year old, 15 and 17 year old brothers break into the home of the 22 year olds ex-girlfriend and murder the 23 year old mother of the 22 year old's child.
In her plea agreement with the brothers, the newly elected county attorney said "our goal is to treat kids like kids" and cites research suggesting children's brains are not fully developed until the age of 25. The plea agreement will send the brothers to juvenile detention for 2 years, and then probation to the age of 21.
Meanwhile, the governor signs an executive order protecting the rights of kids to gender affirming care, presumably under the thinking that 16 year old girls are capable of making an informed decision to have their breasts removed and boys can have whatever they want done to be done. They must be of sound mind and, what's left of it, body.
At puberty the the kids, maybe as young as 12, are eligible for puberty blocking hormones.

Fortunately, if the education system continues to produce kids who can't read the theft rate should decline. Unless, I suppose, the inability of those under 25 to make sound decisions is a primary driving factor.
