I knew of people who pre-covid used to commute to Chicago from the x-urbs to work in office. One of them, a friend's neighbor, actually caught Covid in the spring of 2020 at a meeting with a delegation from China.

I know at least some have worked remotely, met with zoom etc. Dunno what they are doing now. It seems stupid to get dressed up and spend 2 to 3 hours a day in cars, buses, trains to go sit in a cubicle to do things that could be done at home.

At least in SF, companies are dumping leases and going permanently remote. Tesla probably owns their buildings on Deer Park

He is still an idiot, but Jesse Watters did a nice plug for the value of going to work. Working at home, we miss the office gossip. Also, we miss out on office dating. Plus, you can't tell who is tall on zoom. The big one, if we are alone all day,  staring at a screen, we will all turn into mass shooters.

Working remote isn’t all that great for a lot of people. And it’s not like everyone works in a fucking cubicle for shit’s sake.

There are objective benefits to working with other people in a collaborative environment beyond the (likely cherry picked) nonsense Nichi parsed from Watters.

Lots of people don’t need to go to an office setting to do their jobs. Some do. A lot of people I work with have decided to stay home permanently. Many others prefer to go into the office every day and be on a schedule and interact with their colleagues.

I imagine all this will shake out just fine but hey, let’s turn this into a political football too!

It’s also pretty great how Musk went from the darling of the champagne left to pariah so quickly. 

Wonder what will happen when metro SF office buildings have been vacated and everyone is working remote?
