He's been posting since the poor monk lost his head, but I don't know what happens in the afterlife for those guys.
The Jataka Tales are mythical stories about the Buddha's past lives. There are several apocryphal versions of a story about his life as a King named Candraprabha who gives his own life in various ways to protect, save, or heal others. In one obscure version, he cuts off his own head as a gift to a greedy Brahmin. The Brahmins (Vedic priests) are generally the bad guys in the Jataka Tales. The commentaries usually make it clear that these kind of stories are like fables intended to illustrate selflessness, generosity, and compassionate service to others. Some lineages tend to take them more literally than others.
