Mental masturbation for the right wing.
Emily Kopp has covered covid for years, has worked at NPR and under Debbie Stabenow, the former Democratic Senator from Michigan. She's an investigative reporter who does deal in FOIA requests.

From a FOIA request re the National Center for Medical Intelligence June 2020 documents...
Secret/Not for foreign nationals, which means it's a national security concern.

"A trio of scientists at the National Medical Intelligence Center (NCMI) within the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) began by February 2020 to link traces of lab manipulation in the COVID virus to research in Wuhan.

The DIA higher-ups were also weighing the genetic analysis pushed by Fauci’s allies in the “Proximal Origin” paper.

By May 2020, the NCMI scientists had concluded that the paper was deeply flawed, documents show. But their rebuttal was rejected by senior officials at DIA as a “scholarly product” and not disseminated.

By June 2020, the NCMI scientists had compiled what one official described as a “smoking gun”: Documents, obtained by U.S. Right to Know through a FOIA lawsuit, showed NCMI spy scientists had detected signatures of engineering in the genome, and that these signatures pointed back to research proposals from the Wuhan and Baric labs.

Sorry but I don't have anything from CBS that can be creatively edited at their pleasure as long as it avoids "blatant slander and libel".

AI Overview

Determining the precise origin of COVID-19, whether from a lab leak or natural spillover, remains a complex and debated topic.
Based on intelligence assessments and scientific discussions:

Intelligence Community: The US Intelligence Community remains divided on the most likely origin.

Four elements and the National Intelligence Council lean towards natural exposure to an infected animal.

The Department of Energy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation lean towards a laboratory-associated incident.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and one other agency are unable to determine the precise origin, as both hypotheses face challenges with conflicting reporting. The CIA has reportedly shifted its assessment towards the lab leak theory, but maintains "low confidence" in this finding.

Scientific Community: The scientific community largely favors the natural origin hypothesis, citing evidence such as:
Strong evidence of animal spillover at the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan.
Genomic analysis showing the virus's phylogenetic relationship to SARS-like bat viruses.

Research indicating that SARS-CoV-2 likely emerged through natural evolution and recombination events between various hosts like bats and pangolins.

Other considerations:
The Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) is located near the Huanan Seafood Market, leading to speculation about its potential role in a lab leak.

Some intelligence reports suggest risky research methods and breaches of laboratory safety rules at the WIV.
However, no definitive evidence has been shared to support a lab leak.

China has denied the Wuhan lab's responsibility and has been accused of hindering the global investigation.
In conclusion, while there are differing views and ongoing investigations, no conclusive evidence definitively proves either a lab leak or a natural origin for COVID-19. It's crucial to acknowledge the complexities and avoid hasty conclusions based on incomplete information or biased perspectives.

Scientists continue to debate whether the spike protein's greater transmissibility arose naturally or in a laboratory, with some attributing these traits to recombination and selection in animal hosts.

As Ray pointed out, the origin of COVID-19 remains a mystery.

Try watching Fox News. Oh yeah, they do defamation (slander and libel). How about  Alex Jones? Joe Oltmann? Newsmax? Rand Simberg? Mark Steyn? Project Veritas? Breitbart? The current President?

You should probably hold CBS, a traditional national network, to a higher standard than niche commentators or broadly partisan outlets. What they did was wildly misleading at a critical time in the election cycle. I get that you preferred the outcome of the edited footage and as such are inherently biased and can’t be objective in any way, but I do think there’s a path where you could at least try to seek objectivity from the major networks while letting the tribes find their confirmation bias dopamine fixes on the niche channels.

You still crying about this?  News outlets (even FOX) have the right to edit their content, and they do so because of time constraints.  The only difference here is that Trump and his cult are still bitching and moaning, playing the victim.

Time Constraints. LOL

AI Overview

Editing interviews to fit time constraints is a very common practice in media production. In almost any pre-recorded interview for a news segment, podcast, or television show, the full conversation is cut down to its most relevant and engaging points to fit the allotted time.

Why interviews are edited for time
Conciseness: Editing removes filler words, irrelevant digressions, long pauses, and repeated information. This makes the interview more focused and efficient for the audience.

Audience retention: Unedited, raw footage of a long interview can be boring for the average listener or viewer. Condensing the content helps to maintain audience interest and deliver the key takeaways quickly.

Production logistics: News and other media programs have specific and non-negotiable time slots. The final edited version of an interview must be a precise length to fit within the schedule.

Highlighting key information: Producers and editors will choose the most impactful soundbites and quotes to create a coherent narrative or highlight the most important parts of the conversation.
