low key underrated part of this...

A lot of midwesterners took their nest eggs and retired to Florida. Even the ones whose houses didn't get completely trashed in the series of hurricanes, are putting a lot of thought into getting out.

The ones that stay are going to be paying a shitload of money for insurance or just going naked. The ones that leave are going to have a hell of a time trying to sell their homes. Stock market at an all time high but retirees losing half their nest egg in the Florida housing market will not end well

Either the state is going to have to bail out underinsured homeowners or homeowners whose insurer went broke and didn't pay out - or property values in Florida are gonna crash. Florida has no state income tax - relying heavily on property taxes... and that pot will crater if home values crash
