What it boils down to is we want Ukraine in our orbit. We don’t give a fuck about their sovereignty or democracy any more than we did about Iraq or Afghanistan or Vietnam or Korea or anywhere else we’ve gone into the last 70+ years. They have stuff we want.
Putin also wants it, so here we are.
And thanks to the progressives, yes my daughters probably will be the ones fighting some pointless war on the other side of the planet so the rich can get richer as they always do when war breaks out.
There was never a sincere effort to broker peace. Seems to me that if Ukraine ceded the portions (that perhaps were seeded by Soviets) in exchange for a hardcore agreement moving forward, this could have been avoided. Instead we forced Putin’s hand, and this apparently endless quagmire has ensured.
Alum talked about Afghanistan as a hopeless effort for an installed government…what makes anyone think the former actor/reality star de facto dictator Zelenskyy is going to be any different? I am old enough to remember when Democrats laughed about Trump being a former reality TV star. 🤷🏻♂️
All the propaganda hoopla about the handsome actor in his fake battle fatigues has been nice, but Ukraine is basically a tinpot dictatorship at this point with no infrastructure to support any sustainable democracy. It’s just a proxy power struggle over a valuable property.

If Custard had been in charge, China would have abosorbed Tawain. North Korea would have invaded S. Korea and Putin would have succeeded in puting the band back together again. The world would be a much more dangerous and chaotic place where our adversaries, including Iran, are emboldened.
Appeasement doesn’t work with brutal authoritarians like Putin. There’s a reason Sweden and Finland are joining NATO. Their leaders understand Putin’s territorial ambitions in Eastern Europe.
