The timeline:

Traded best player BEFORE the season.

Traded Robert Quinn a couple of days after their dominant win on the road in NE. Still in “playoff contention.”

Traded Roquan Smith after they gave up 49 points to the Cowboys (Justin Fields’ fault no doubt). The offense played well that day.

Traded FOR offensive help in Chase Claypool because Fields was doing it virtually all on his own.

And that ignores the often repeated fact that Poles stripped the roster down and signed a bunch of one year lottery tickets because his goal was to win long-term, not year one.

Ryan Poles: Trades away #1 pick for more draft capital. Leaving Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson (all top 4 picks), and Will Levis on the board.

PAMan: The Bears obviously identified Justin Fields as the problem and tanked the season (yet did nothing to address it in the off-season! Unless you consider signing UFA Tyson Bagent the solution).

They didn't want those guys. Couldn't get Caleb Williams. It is the Bear. They were not going to pay 2 qbs and were not going to be able to trade Fields.

Khalil Mack was not their best player. We have been through that as well.

The NE game was where they threw up their hands on playing an NFL offense. They had given up going into the bye week. The tank was on from that point.

Doing it by himself? What about all those receivers who are great at blocking downfield for him? They probably wanted another blocking WR since Mooney was hurt.

It was a winnable division, as it is this year. They threw in the towel after seeing how bad the QB was.
