If it were entirely luck, we wouldn’t see the overwhelming number of QBs be high draft choices. We’d see a lot more 5th rounders being successful. Yes, variance, randomness, and even “luck,” can be a factor.

Again, if it were all “luck,” we’d see a lot more mid/late hits. The miss rate is high (as it is at every position). Doesn’t mean it’s entirely “luck.”
