The Bears didn’t pass on Carter because of lack of need or talent.
I’d prefer not to vote for Catholics either. But I’d still take them over the Muslims.

You all want diversity but white people are like 7% of the population of the world and account for the vast majority of innovation

So I think viewing Carter through the Bears’ microscope is reasonably fair, but can also be a bit “hot takey.” It can be both.

Should the Panthers, Texans, and Colts really be viewed on Jalen Carter in the same light as the Bears? That’s absurd. Again, he was not Connor Bedard, nor was he ever. QBs were always the priority up top.

Is there anyone here who would rank RT above QB, Edge/DL, CB, (or even generational RB) in terms of value to an NFL team?

But yeah, “everyone else passed on Jalen Carter, too” is indeed an “accurate” statement…

Sit down, ankle biter.

Who deserves more of the microscope? Pete Carrol for taking a CB worthy of being a top 5 pick? Or Ryan Poles who took a RT instead of the dynamic 3Tech his defense woefully needs 4 picks later?

It really makes me laugh that you guys accuse me of lacking an understanding of “nuance.”

That’s not to say that what Poles did was “wrong…”

What’s your point other than “everyone passed on the generational DT?”

ALL of those teams were not taking him regardless, including the Bears - obviously, since they all had the opportunity to take him and passed.  8 of them did it for free, one of them got a pick for it.

Again, nice of you to notice that teams seeking a quarterback, or opting to take what they viewed as the best player in the draft at a premium position with the possible of exceptions of Vegas and ATL who clearly had valid reasons for taking who they took. Poles was the first guy to take a non-premium position, while passing on clearly the best player left at a position of dire need. Again, that’s not to say he was “wrong.”

So what was your point again? That other teams didn’t basically “trade Jalen Carter for a draft pick?”

You can’t understand why Carter to the Bears at 9 made more sense than Carter to Indy at 4? Is this really your position?

You are (seemingly) arguing from a position that Carter was the overwhelming choice for best player. At 1, it was a debate. Especially pre-accident. At 9, he was far and away the best talent.

Early January, I’d venture to guess that 60-65% of mocks had Anderson as the #1 player. Probably 25% Carter, the rest Bryce Young.
