Young had serious medical concerns is what was being said behind the scene. Some medical doctors said his knee would hold up, and others said it wouldn’t. Some weren’t allowed to medically check before making an offer.

Apparently Sweat more likely to re-sign, and some have said the medicals/injury history scared people off of Chase.

Uh, for a second, don't you think he better sign him? Shouldn't he already have a deal in place? Sweat would seemingly have leverage  (especially if he does not mind the tag).

My guess is that the Bears are confident they will re-sign him.

Brian Mitchell (former kick returning great), now a Washington radio guy seemed to say Sweat is a little more grounded than Chase (who already views himself as a superstar), and that he’s a more reliable player. Also; more likely to sign an extension than Young.

Honestly I think it’s a good move. I don’t understand the hate. Especially from ESPN who graded it an F for the Bears. He’s actually performed much better than Young, especially in the run game, and has never missed a game in his career. That’s huge. Young health-wise was a huge risk and why he went for less than Sweat.

And you don’t make this move unless he’s signing. And you’re not getting a DE of this caliber this year in the draft either, so I don’t see the downside.

If he does not sign, you have him for a year and 10 games. Meanwhile, you miss out on possibly getting a long term player at 2, maybe even a good OL

If you really wanted him, you could sign him as a FA and save the 2.
