"The Russian's influence was minimal compared to the influence of the government, Hamilton68, other groups and the media."

The media unduly influenced  the media?

"And true, good luck finding something from the government to Twitter, Facebook or whoever in black and white that says "you are compelled"."

So your evidence that they were compelled is they all say, no, they were not compelled?

How about

"the files show several instances of Twitter pushing back against outside recommendations regarding moderation and attribution."

Do you disagree with this:

"...much of what the files show in this case is simply mechanisms by which light is being cast on possible foreign information operations. Far from illegal, working with U.S. platforms to stop foreign information operations in this way is exactly what we should expect from the government."

This is how the writer couches his argument, but there were more impactful domestic operations than foreign.
Yes there was some push back, but that doesn't absolve Twitter of instances where they wouldn't push back.

There is merit to addressing the foreign operations, but these are nothing new.

Sounds like we should be happy that the Twitter, in partnership with our intelligence agencies, were able to limit the Soviet influence during the election. Job well done everybody

I agree that purely petty personal requests are different than requests from law enforcement or intelligence agencies.

So your thinking is that a boss asking his female report to give him a blowjob is "just a personal request"?

I was saying, in the context of asking twitter to remove something, I suppose I might concede that a petty ego based personal request is different than a national security based suggestions from the think tanks, law enforcement,  etc.

I have no idea how you turned that  into my thinking sexual harassment is a personal request.

Our good  friend from MN seems to think personal requests are ok, but suggestions from third parties are not. I don't agree with his reasoning.

I do agree there is a distinction between Trump acting out of his  personal interest and law enforcement acting in the national interest.

I don't think we can say one is always ok and the other is not.

There were certainly teams of trolls supporting Trump on Facebook. They even had friends who were facebook mods.

Is there a difference between The President of the United States acting out of his personal interest and Tempo calling up twitter to get them to delete a PAMan tweet accusing him of molesting his kids?

That's why the analogy holds. Tempo can't do anything to Twitter. The President can.

Right. You must've missed this:

MN wrote "If the government or other actor gets involved in the request, that's also a different kettle of fish."

I replied: I think President Trump was part of the government?

So threatening to use his power to regulate or shut them down is ok?

Trump using his power for personal reasons is distinct from law enforcement, intelligence agencies, or think tanks advising social media platforms about foreign intel operations. I don't know how many different ways I can word that. I conceded that point tp MN.

MN seems to be saying said the former was okay; but the latter was not. I disagreed.

Hilarious. The Soviets still working hard for Trump?

https://apnews.com/article/trump-desantis-twitter-haley-presidential-election-4d61487294f9218855b8e6e89f0c8ccc

Over the past 11 months, someone created thousands of fake, automated Twitter accounts — perhaps hundreds of thousands of them — to offer a stream of praise for Donald Trump.

Besides posting adoring words about the former president, the fake accounts ridiculed Trump’s critics from both parties and attacked Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador who is challenging her onetime boss for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
