Pretty tough to immediately bring down egg prices in the midst of this bird flu, and I don’t think it’s wrong to point out why they are high. What do you want to bet that egg prices will be lower sometime in the next 46 months?

Trump should admit he was wrong and Biden was right.

My guess is massive egg farms are part of the problem.

Hopefully the persistent strain of avian flu gets stamped out. I don't see how just culling sick birds from huge flocks is a sensible approach..

Trump should admit that he is wrong and Biden was right and commit political suicide? About what? Egg prices are high because we culled millions of birds. That’s undeniable. Of course they are going to harp on that fact, it’s politics. You’re usually a reasonable person, but this is where your bias kicks in. If Trump says it, it’s a lie. If a Democrat says it, it’s “spin.”

Even if you believe that the only way to solve for the bird flu is culling them all, it’s still the reason prices are high. A not-insignificant number of birds are not going to succumb to the virus. Wouldn’t it make some sense to cull the sick, keep the strong, and then breed the survivors? The offspring will inherently have better survivability to this type of virus going forward.

Then why spend the entire campaign saying you'll bring down prices on day one, unless you are a liar or stupid?

Shall we walk through all the things Democrats have said that weren’t true in order to get elected?

You’re old enough to know how this works. It’s just selective criticism at this point.

If only Trump had known, when he was campaigning 6 months ago, that bird flu was going to get out of hand during the end of the Biden administration.
If only Trump had known, last October, that Musk was going to make a comment in March of 2025 that as part of the Biden administration's 2024-2025 culling that tens of millions of chickens would be culled in Dec 2024 and Jan 2025.

"At that existential moment back in March, when the virus was first detected in cows, veterinarians involved in the response had every expectation that a well-honed network of experts, led by USDA scientists, would immediately rev to life."
"But it didn’t. “Nobody came,” says one veterinarian in a Western state. “When the diagnosis came in, the government stood still. They didn’t know what to do, so they did nothing.”

Oct 2024.

And a heartwarming fishwrap story from this past Thanksgiving about the waning bird flu impact and the Biden Thanksgiving pardoning of 2 turkeys.

I am not sure what the point of linking that vanity fair article was. The USDA sucks.? They covered it up? They didn't do enough?

There was absolutely no new information in that article. They have been dealing with this strain since January 2022.

The Trump admin message has been they can't lower egg prices because Biden killed millions of chickens..

Anyone who could afford to pay attention knew the USDA was taking a stamp it out, depopulate approach.

There was never any way Trump was going to be able to.lower egg prices. I knew that. If Trump got caught by surprise, that was his fault.

Yeah, those folks were doing such a good job managing this bird flu! How many people do we need to employ to tell farmers to kill all their chickens when some of them get sick?

How could Trump have known?

Jan 31, 2025 from PBS
"As the virus kept spreading throughout the summer, USDA senior official Eric Deeble said at a press briefing, “The response is adequate.”

The USDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration presented a united front at these briefings, calling it a “One Health” approach. In reality, agriculture agencies took the lead.

This was explicit in an email from a local health department in Colorado to the county’s commissioners. “The State is treating this primarily as an agriculture issue (rightly so) and the public health part is secondary,” wrote Jason Chessher, public health director in Weld County, Colorado.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/how-america-lost-control-of-the-bird-flu-and-raised-the-risk-of-another-pandemic

March 3, 2025
"In the U.S., we have never seen this many H5 cases, ever. And we just had our first death,” said Seema Lakdawala, co-director of the Center for Transmission of Airborne Pathogens at Emory University.
Depending on whom you ask in public health, the federal government’s response to the outbreak so far has been “mixed,” “disappointing,” “reactive” and “inadequate.”

On the frontline against bird flu, egg farmers fear they're losing  the battle

Yes, bird flu has been an issue since 2022 and up until recently it's been fairly well addressed.
Yet somehow you knew during the 2024 campaign season that, according to some experts, the Biden administration response would be inadequate and post-election bird flu would be the worst since 2022.
