Carlin was a self described left of cente. He might not be enamored with Hollywood elite liberals, but he wouldn't support right populism.

Do you mean Democrats portray themselves much different than Trumpers portray them?

I say Trumpers because so many actual Republicans are endorsing Harris and Walz despite legitimate policy differences.

I’m certainly not arguing that Carlin wasn’t left of center, especially back then.

But the entire political spectrum has shifted so much to the left since then that PAMan, a Democrat, is regularly called a Republican here for having moderate views.

My views have pretty much always aligned with Carlin’s, which is why I’ve always been such a fan. I voted for Obama in 08, Romney in 12, Johnson in 16 (specifically because I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Hillary or Trump) didn’t vote in 2020 because Covid (but would have voted third party).

No party exists that caters to my political leanings and feelings and moreover, like George, I’ve realized we only have the illusion of choice and I refuse to let myself be fooled or sucked in by it.

But I’m a right winger in the eyes of the progressive bent here because, like PAMan, I reject much of the far left progressive ideology and their hypocrisy.

Most people I talk with think the shift has been to the right. So much so that Dick Cheney endorses the Democrat for President.

I see it differently. The spectrum hasn't shifted. It has been rearranged again.

Carlin said Democrats care about people; Republicans care about property. That is why he leaned left and that hasn't changed.

btw, I first started following Carlin when he was the hippy dippy weather man on the Smothers Brothers Show. 

Years later, when the youngest son was about 14, circa 1992, his reaction was what Carlin said was true, but he didn't think it was funny.

I view PAMan as center-left.  I'm a hardcore lefty.  You won't find me trying to hide it, or pretend I'm something else.

You are firmly entrenched in the right-wing spectrum. It's pretty clear that Ron DeSanctimonious is your guy,  but you also have a boner for Elon Musk.

Funny thing is the Ukraine funding bill passed when it was separated from the border security deal.  And Mike Johnson and other House GOP members voted for it.

The border deal died because Trump didn't want any legislation to pass before the election.

I don’t really know much about DeSantis but I do appreciate he didn’t cave to the pressure of shutting down his state in 2020 to the degree others did.

I’m glad Musk bought Twitter because there needs to be some balance in big social media—they shouldn’t all be left-controlled. I tend to agree with Murph that he’s off the rails. But even Musk has been a lifelong left of center type person that’s become disenchanted with what’s become of modern left wing priorities.

I’ve always been the kind of person that could vote either way depending on what a candidate had to offer. To a hardcore lefty, that makes me entrenched in the right wing spectrum.

My biggest issues right now are common sense border security and the fact I’ve seen with my own two eyes what’s happened across the country in single party rule blue areas over the last 4-5 years, and it’s appalling. NYC, SF, Chicago, STL, LA, Portland, Seattle, etc are all noticeably worse places in many respects than they were 5-10 years ago. Places with more balanced governments are attracting people fleeing from those other areas and expanding as fast as they can build.

Not if he wrecks the economy again. Trump has no clue how to run a business or a country. Most of the people he hired for his first administration now oppose him. The rest are weirdos.
