Fundraising is obviously critical, but not enough of Bernie's supporters showed up to vote. Biden was able to build a broader coalition to help navigate the primaries.
Overthinking. If the next primary was in say, Washington, Michigan, or even Georgia, maybe even Florida or Texas, this conversation never happens. South Carolina was the perfect storm, the makeup of the African American electorate there vs say Michigan, and the sway that Jim Clyburn had. That gets Biden a win and back into the race.
Now - after that, it's not just that Klobuchar and Buttigieg dropped out, Tempo neglects to mention that Elizabeth Warren, who was in a worse spot than Buttigieg for sure, didn't drop out. Her voters had a stronger overlap with support for Bernie, Pete and Klobuchar with Biden.
None of this fucking matters. Biden beat Trump and built a very capable support structure, cabinet/etc... I for one would not claim that Bernie would have done better or worse as President *if* he beat Trump. We *know* Biden beat Trump. All that needed to happen was for Biden not to run. Kamala Harris goes nowhere in an open primary.
