It took FBI analyst Hellman, under questioning by defense attorney Berkowitz, about 24 hours to translate Hillary's tweet and current NSA Jake Sullivan's pre 2016 election statement after being given what CNN now refers to as "uncorroborated"  :D evidence   ....

OMG, sharing political opposition research with the press.  Nobody does that!   Hillary should be in prison!

Sooo, what does this all mean for Michael Sussmann, you know, the schmo who is on trial for allegedly lying to the FBI?   Did he go to the FBI as a “concerned citizen” or on behalf of the Clinton campaign? 

Former Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook testified that he didn’t authorize or direct Sussmann to go to the FBI with the Trump tip.  Mook testified that he didn’t even know who Sussmann was during the 2016 campaign and would have opposed an FBI meeting.

Seems to reinforce the testimony of Marc Ellias, another Clinton campaign official.   Earlier in the week, he testified that he didn’t authorize Sussmann’s meeting with the FBI. 

Looks to me like the Mook/Elias testimony doesn’t support the suspicion that Sussmann’s work was the culmination of an elaborate Clinton campaign plan to gin up coverage about the Trump-Alpha tip AND then get the FBI to start an investigation.

It's possible the Democrats tried to do to the Donald Trump what Trump tried to do to Joe Biden. Get him investigated; then get the media talking about the investigation? Or vice versa?

Trump threatened to withhold foreign aid unless Ukraine opened an investigation into Biden. A whistle blower interrupted his plans.

The HRC campaign did opposition research. They used back channels to alert the FBI about evidence they found. The FBI checked it out and some of it was inconclusive, some was seemingly debunked. The campaign  also leaked some of it  to the press.

Sussman is not being charged with providing fake evidence to the FBI. He used his connections to meet with Baker and assured him he was not representing his client.

My thinking is either the evidence was worth checking out or not. The key for me is whether or not Sussman and Baker thought it was worth pursuing.

How about billing records? Is it true Sussman billed the meeting with Baker to the campaign?

If so, can a lawyer act on a client's time against a client's wishes? Would that be fraudulent?

In this instance it is alleged that if the FBI had known the info was being given to it on the campaign's behalf, it would have viewed the situation differently; i.e., it may not have used its resources in the same manner to pursue the lead had it known Sussman was acting in behalf of a client versus as a "concerned citizen" with no axe to grind.

There has been no accusation that the campaign told him to lie. The billing records obviously show that in his mind he was representing the campaign during the meeting when he told the FBI he was not representing anyone.

Correct.
And Sussman knew, with his work experience, that he would not have gotten in the door for a one on one with Baker if he had told Baker he represented Hillary or the DNC. And Baker said as much.

Sussman and Baker are old friends. Baker already knew where Sussman worked and who they represented.

Sworn testimony indicates Sussman went to the FBI on his volition, not at the direction of the law firm, not at the direction of the Clinton campaign. That supports the idea that Sussman was acting as a concerned citizen.

But he billed the campaign for his time.

When the evidence points two different directions, that creates reasonable doubt in my mind.
