This is not the Low Thinker/High Thinker bit from HQ OG, but Short Term versus Long Term. I'm thinking Super Bowl/Final Four and you are thinking of Danny Parkins' next broadcast.

No, it’s called not overreacting to minor negatives on opening night (with an all new roster).
Wanting America to be better is not America-hating, it’s patriotism.

If they are shooting 60% from the line in January, I won’t make fun of you for complaining about it.

Roster construction has zero to do with free shot shooting. Either you make them, or you don't. Not making them at a good percentage is problematic.
Mark Carman: "The Whitlock!...Caleb Williams failed Wayne Whitlock." Been told I need to take my dick out my mouth so maybe I "wont [sic] sound like such a fucking faggot all the time[.]"

Fair enough

Again, two freshmen and a 270 pound big who went like 8-9 from the floor had an off night at the line in early November. Stop being a putz.

Hard to take away much from from a first game against an overmatched opponent.

EIU has a few good kids.

Harris looks like a pleasant surprise.

Clark is skilled, was a little to aggressive at times.

Epps was a a little tentative.

Rodgers had 5 assists and 8 rebounds ...

Dainja looked a little overweight. He has good hands and some ball skills.

Mayer reportedly has been having back problems. Looked stiff and frustrated. He has some length and handles.

RJ shot poorly and looked tentative.

Serven might play some.

Lieb is tall.

Hopefully Hawkins keeps it up. Unless Rodgers develops a shot, he and Shannon are our best players.

Shannon best player by large margin. He looks like a guy that athletically could get a look in NBA.

I think we can legitimately play 9 guys, but getting them on same page will take time.

After the first 2 games, all these guys are confirming what I saw on their HS tapes.

Harris can be developed.  His athleticism, arm length I think will make him a quality player that could play in the NBA.

Sky Clark is Mark Smith 2.0.  Looks smooth but isnt very athletic. He’s just a guy.

Epps I thought was more athletic on his tapes than what he’s shown.  He too looks like just a guy.

Rodgers imo is like a Draymond Green.  Put Green on a great team like the Warriors, and he’s a difference maker. But if you put him on a bad team, he’s not gonna really matter. I think Rodgers needs great players around him to then be able to play his own junkyard dog role. But on a average to IMO bad team like Illinois I don’t see him standing out.

Mayer stinks.  His stats at Baylor and age should have told everyone that.

Dainja will struggle vs taller players bc he has no lift.  Maybe he can be Shaun Pruitt at best.

Hawkins/Shannon look very good.

Overall team wise this roster reminds me of some mediocre Maryland or Cincinnati teams. Where there were plenty of tall rangy athletic wings but not much shooting.  Feels like to me some of the pieces are redundant.  Gonna be a bubble or below year.  They really should attempt to mimic Syracuse and Syracuse zone. That’s the style they should play.  If they play up tempo vs good teams and man-man defense they’ll be really bad

After watching replays of the first two forays, something tells me this might be more accurate than I’d like to admit. This team is going to rely on a lot of untested players who almost all need to perform to their projections for us to be what we thought we could be. Missing Goode hurts more than we realize. Hawkins isn’t going to make 5 25 footers every game at the end of the shot clock, that’s for goddamned sure.

Maybe if you watched the game; you'd know those were not at the end of the shot clock?

"Dainja will struggle vs taller players bc he has no lift.  Maybe he can be Shaun Pruitt at best."

Dainja and Pruitt are both 6-9 big men with limited hops. End of similarity.

Pruitt had a 7-1 wingspan, Dainja 7-7. Dainja has much better hands. He has handles, passing skills, a face up shot, and can run the court. His issues are watching his weight and conditioning.

"Sky Clark is Mark Smith 2.0.  Looks smooth but isnt very athletic. He’s just a guy."

Must be watching someone else. Mark Smith was smooth? The late Mark Smith was smooth.  !!!!!!

"Mayer stinks.  His stats at Baylor and age should have told everyone that."

He is apparently playing through back problems.

"... Rodgers needs great players around him to then be able to play his own junkyard dog role."

8 rebounds, 5 assists.

I didn’t say I agreed with all of it. I have some concerns and definitely think there will be some frustrating growing pains. My main hope is that they play well enough to get a decent seed in the tourney because I think they’ll really be rounding into form by then and don’t want to see them get stuck with a 9 seed on the West coast or something. B1G is down again this year so🤞

But after one game aren’t you extremely concerned over free-throw shooting?

One thing is not happening. They are not jacking up desperation threes late in the shot clock. The threes are coming fast as part of offense, and often in transition. If anything they were rushing shots. They missed a lot of lay ups.

Everyone in the current top 9, even the bigs, can handle ball in transition.

We're going to miss Goode. Hopefully he's ok to go for the bulk of conference play.
