If Fetterman switched his vote, does Tillis vote and Vance breaks the tie?

Would seem to be the case.

Unsurprising!

Sen. Rand Paul’s son sorry after drunken tirade against ‘gays and the Jews’ — will seek ‘help for drinking problem’

He must’ve been hanging out with Mel Gibson.

Well, it is as old as the Republic itself, so not sure you should get your hopes up. Maybe try and do a better job of convincing voters wherever they live? There is a real risk of the Republicans spreading themselves a little too thin by being cute here.
Virginia voted 2:1 for non-partisan districting.

As of May 2026, Democratic strategies on redistricting reflect a "fight fire with water" philosophy, where they generally support national nonpartisan redistricting but have ramped up aggressive gerrymandering in blue states to combat Republican gains. Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have expressed that the era of "unilaterally disarming" is over, particularly ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Key Strategies and Current Context (2026)

"Fighting Fire with Fire":
Democrats are aggressively pursuing the redrawing of congressional lines in blue states like California and, at times, New York and Illinois, to pick up seats and counteract Republican advantages in states like Texas and Florida.

*The "Unilateral Disarmament" Dilemma: While advocating for national, independent, nonpartisan commissions, many Democratic officials feel forced to use partisan mapmaking because they argue that Republican-led states are not held to the same standards.

*Failed Federal Reform: Efforts to pass federal legislation (such as the Freedom to Vote Act or H.R. 1) that would ban partisan gerrymandering nationwide have repeatedly failed, which has prompted this turn toward state-level aggressive tactics.

*The 2026 Midterm Reality: In the lead-up to the 2026 elections, Democrats have been trying to make up for losses in court, which have often favored Republican redistricting efforts.

*Failed Tactics: In some cases, Democratic attempts to redraw maps have been blocked by state courts, such as in Virginia, where the state Supreme Court rejected a Democratic-supported map, disrupting their strategy to gain seats.

*Focus on 2028: While fighting to regain the House in 2026, many Democratic organizations, like the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), are simultaneously focused on state-level legislative races in 2026 to secure control of the process for the next decade.

In summary, the consensus among many Democrats is to advocate for nonpartisan reform while simultaneously defending their majority prospects by using the same tools they seek to eliminate, a stance reinforced by the NDRC's strategy of targeted state-level investments.
