Not a pass, but he should have been treated as a juvenile.

I gather he spent about  5 years in confinement. I have no idea what that amounted to. Hopefully there was mental and physical discipline. Perhaps a GED and vocational training.

You were so close to figuring it out.

We spend all of our money and all this angst chasing around Mexicans who are coming here to pick crops and wash dishes, so the agency processing visas for your co-worker is underfunded and your buddy has to wait.

Add to that the GOP is so hyper focused on telling their base they are tough on immigration that they oppose H1-B's anyway, because all those Cletus' that finished their GED last month at 30 aren't getting a job at Nvidia because Nvidia hired some Indian guy with a PhD from MIT instead.
