Trey Lance started and finished one game in his career. A game that was played in monsoon like conditions.

He was 2 for 3 in his second start with a 99.3 passer rating when he sustained a season ending injury. I’m not sure the sample size was adequate to draw any definite conclusions.

My bad, he started 2 games last year. Had a 97.3 QB rating. Pretty good for a rookie. 97 used to be considered great.

Didn't he start preseason games this season and look like hooey? Granted they were preseason games, but even then you are only seeing vanilla defenses. If you do not look good preseason....

If you cannot play well in the preseason as a QB, odds are against you being good in the regular season. Kind of like if you suck at free shots as a team in your first game, the odds are you will suck at free shots over the rest of the year.

Despite all those weapons (sans McCaffrey), he has sucked. And Shanahan did not even pick him.

Well he played two apparently pretty decent games in the regular season his rookie year. He could have been playing with scrubs in preseason, who knows?

What I do know is that it’s worthless to put much stock into the preseason. The 85 Bears were 1-3 in the preseason.

And apparently, he wasn’t “bad” in preseason. 7 for 11 for 49 yards isn’t otherworldly, but it’s not something I’d panic about.

I’d be willing to bet Shanahan had some input when it came to drafting Lance. He’s a top 5 coach easy. No way he didn’t sign off on it.
