Only a buffoon would think a QB that can’t pass the ball, and takes a million sacks because he can’t read a defense quick enough to make a decision, is a better QB than a guy that can do both of those things.

Tom Brady is a great QB bc he makes quick decisions and puts the ball where it needs to go.  That is essentially what QB’ing is.

Do you honestly believe Fields would put up better stats than Purdy has in the 49’ers offense?

Purdy has played nearly 7 full games and compare his stats vs the entire league.

67% completion (5th in NFL)
111 passer rating (1st in NFL)
65.3 QBR (5th in NFL)

No, the 49ers would not trade away a rookie QB that has performed as a top 5 Qb in his 7 games, for a 2nd year QB that has performed as a bottom 8 Qb during his career.

Stats don’t lie.

I feel like if Purdy wins the Super Bowl you’ll still think Fields is better despite there being no statistical basis for it.

This reminds me of the time Spark compared Mitchell Trubisky to Patrick Mahomes by using stats. Lol

Obviously, Fields is not Mahomes, but the stretch is similar.

Ok, I’ll bite. Mentions how SF has 5 guys with “catch and run ability” who line up all over the place. Mentions the stress that puts on a defense. Mentions how Shanahan does a great job of creating space for these players. Shanahan will direct you to where the ball should go. Great scheme.

Gives some credit to Purdy that he’s “clearly coachable.” IIRC mentions his mobility too. Says he’s looking forward to the SF/Dallas matchup. Says Dallas does things he hasn’t seen before. Mentions he’s played against soft defenses.

He's played soft defenses and, generally, played with leads. The issue with Shanahan"s offense is when they are down and in must pass situations.

And Lance and Fields aren't Brock Purdy, which is the bigger indictment.

It was mostly this second line that made me LOL. I can only interpret it as you’d make the Bears give you more than Fields? Either way, still absurd. The Bears wouldn’t be dumb enough to make that trade.

Secondly, I think it’s pretty ridiculous to think Fields wouldn’t be a better passer with a great offensive line (best LT in football), several elite catch and run options, a quarterback friendly scheme and a coach who’s recognized as a top 5 coach in the league; and specializes in offense and getting a lot of out the quarterback position. The Niners have an embarrassment of riches. What the Bears have doesn’t even come close. Deebo Samuel alone would make Justin Fields better. Even without the All World LT, TE, RB, and widely praised and copied scheme.

Fields had Allen Robinson his first year.  He still sucked.

Look how Justin Fields destroyed Allen Robinson's Bears career:
Allen Robinson:
2019 (Before Justin Fields): 98 catches, 1,147 yards (16 games), 63.6 Catch %
2020 (Before Justin Fields):  102 catches, 1250 yards, (16 games), 67.5 Catch%
2021 (with Justin Fields): 38 catches, 410 yards (12 games), 57.6 Catch %

And again, the QB is the guy that elevates the players around him.  Not the other way around.  You can give a QB a ton of weapons around him, and he may still never be good.  Look at Jay Cutler.  Cutler had Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey, Matt Forte all around him.  What did the Bears win with him?  Why wasn't Cutler the best QB in the league with all that talent around him?

Allen was absolute trash this year and last.

You’re right. Where would Christian McCaffery, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle be without Brock Purdy? Bums! That’s where!

So you think he just became washed up instead of changing QBs?

I’m sure Fields didn’t help him last year. But what was his excuse this year? I saw a couple Rams games early this year before Stafford got hurt and not sure I even heard his name called. He was mostly a ghost until Kupp went down. Even after that didn’t produce much. His big game of the year was 5 catches for 63 yards. He had 3 catches over 20. None over 30.

Robinson was never a separation guy anyway. He’s a contested catch guy. I partially blame Nagy for the lack of chemistry they had. Fields should have been getting starter reps from day 1 instead of stupid band-aid on a cancer patient Andy Dalton. That hurt Fields’ development. Nagy and Pace thought they were going to slow-play Fields into another 2-3 years. They were wrong.

Didn’t it come out that Nagy basically ghosted Allen Robinson his final year here? I’ll look for the story.

There were multiple stories that came out about how toxic Matt Nagy’s last year or two were. Also ghosted Mitch.

This is the guy who was originally entrusted to develop Justin Fields.

Put Justin Fields or Trey Lance QB'ing them, they go nowhere.

McCaffrey has played on some terrible teams bc the QB sucked.

Purdy literally plays with 3 of the top game breakers in the league. Arguably #1 RB (when healthy), also in conversation for best receiving back of all-time. For my money Deebo Samuel is the most explosive and versatile WR in the league. Throw it to him at the line of scrimmage and he will do the rest. Kittle is only surpassed by Travis Kelce as a receiver. And when it comes to catch and run ability, he’s probably on par. Aiyuk is a very talented WR. Overshadowed by those around him, but he is a stud. Juszcyk is the best in the NFL at what he does. Great blocker, excellent receiving threat out of the backfield. He requires attention when on the field.

Fields has none of these luxuries. Mooney would be the distant #3 in SF.

Montgomery wouldn’t play much for Shanahan. Doesn’t have the plant and go burst that Shanahan wants. Khalil Herbert would probably thrive in SF but wouldn’t be very useful in the pass game.
