This is lame, but I guess this is the direction we have been leaning towards for a while now. Big10 gets a market like LA. and they can even up with the SEC.

For football it makes sense.  You can make 2 divisions of 8 teams each which would give each division far more balance.

Big 10 West:
USC
UCLA
Iowa
Minnesota
Illinois
Wisconsin
Northwestern
Nebraska

Big 10 East:
Indiana
Michigan
Michigan State
Penn State
Rutgers
Ohio State
Maryland
Purdue

For basketball, I don’t like it. If you have a 20 game regular season, that means 10 opponents you only play one time.  Whoever gets conf champion will be whoever gets the most advantageous schedule which demeans the title

UCLA makes the most sense to me, USC? All sports across the board would benefit from the recruiting bases being added. Revenue would go up with these teams, and competition is better in the B1G vs the PAC so it makes sense from that angle as well.

I don't see them both in the same division, unless to continue to foster that rivalry.

Big 10 West:

UCLA
Penn St.
Minnesota
Illinois
Wisconsin
Michigan
Nebraska
Purdue

Big 10 East:
USC
Indiana
Michigan State
Iowa
Rutgers
Ohio State
Maryland
Northwestern

Regular season conference championships are meaningless, you say? Hmmm.

The travel involved for UCLA/USC to make this work is going to suck for them.  Just think how much traveling their baseball teams will have to do.  It’s going to be similar to the travel Hawaii has to do when it comes to the mainland for games.

What probably will happen I think is a few more teams will be added from the west coast and then you’ll have a 20 team conference with a 10 team West and a 10 team East.

USC
UCLA
Washington
Oregon
Nebraska
Illinois
Minnesota
Iowa
Northwestern
Wisconsin

It may give the conference more money but it kills rivalry games and won’t be good for fans. I think it will hurt attendance.

1. Everyone here acts like it is never cold in Washington, Oregon, or Utah. I am sure they are used to playing baseball in shit weather. I think USC and UCLA know what they are in for and don't care because $$$$$$$.

2. I do not see pure West and East conferences being a goal for USC and UCLA. They did not get into this to play Nebraska hopefully. They should want to play in the Eastern time zone and spread their brand East. But, who knows?

3. What do Washington and Oregon bring to the table $$$ wise? Nothing. If anything, I would think the B1G would want the Arizona schools.

Looking forward to those crisp fall afternoons enjoying the classic Big 10 matchup of USC versus Rutgers.

It's way past time for football to leave the NCAA.  They play maybe 6 road games a year?  That's manageable even coast to coast.  Most other sports play considerably more contests and the travel costs and impact on the classroom just doesn't make sense (cents?).  NIL has not changed the landscape for the vast majority of NCAA athletes.

In terms of program values, WA and OR are comparable to UCLA and USC. Seattle is the 12th largest media market. Portland is 21st. For reference, Phoenix is 11th and Denver 16th, so adding any of these schools could be justified.

Really, a lot of this is about getting rid of the crap high majors. Wash State, Kansas State, etc. are dead weight. Illinois should feel grateful Michigan and OSU and PSU haven't bolted for their own thing yet.

The problem is no one gives a crap about West Coast time zone teams. LA is the outlier given the size. AZ is unique with Mountain though. If it was otherwise, the PAC12 TV deal would not suck.

No one East of Oregon or Washington state gives a rat's ass about the teams in those states. The people in those states barely even care about them. The Supersonics left. When is the last time the Trailblazers were on network TV?

Well I guess I'm going to have to eat it here, as I saw some numbers claiming that Oregon last year was the 10th most watched college football team. Maybe it was who they played....

Aside from the Nike $ and the shitty basketball court, I don't see what they bring to the table that is attractive.
