Was this part of the reasoning behind the resignations ?

Andrew Luger was US Atty. He would have picked his First Asst, who turned out to be Joe Thompson.
Chances are that Luger would choose a like minded person.
Chances are that it was suggested to Biden to nominate a like minded person as the US Atty.
Biden chose Luger.
Luger chose Thompson.

When Trump was elected Luger resigned and Thompson assumed the role of acting US Atty.
The Trump nominee for the US Atty position was not Senate confirmed until late last year.
Thompson was allowed to stay on in the interim while he continued to investigate the fraud.

The Biden appointed US Atty's First Asst knew his days in Minnesota were numbered.
His resignation was probably already in the works.
