This is hilarious. Trump, regardless of what evil he does, remains around 37 to 43% approval.
Meanwhile, regardless of how heavy handed ICE is, the Dems still remain underwater on immigration vis a vis the GOP.
They are just pussies and won't just get up and lay out the how the world's gotta work and why the GOP power structure doesn't want it to work.
We need the labor, some of it annually, more saliently some of it seasonally. Current rules don't allow enough labor in.
This labor is basically motor oil to lubricate our economy. US citizens are the gasoline, our companies are the engines. We hum along but if we can't get the spiky labor that guest workers provide, the engine seizes up.
The massive overhaul that's needed is a very aggressive guest worker program. Make it simple for guest workers to come in, and for employers to hire them. You come in without that very easy guest worker visa, you're in deep shit. You hire someone who didn't get the guest worker visa, you're in deeper shit. Have comprehensive rules on what that guest worker visa entitles you to. This could presumably include some small fee that the employers pay to have some sort of basic health insurance for those workers, that's the insurance you get if you are not a citizen but are here legally. If you somehow decide to bypass that very simple system and come here illegally, and get sick, we won't let you die, but your level of care will solely be humanitarian level, you can have a cast on your arm but we're not doing the surgery.
It shouldn't be necessary but we can throw in some sort of "there are not American workers being displaced" shit in there too. It could simply be unemployment numbers are below X%, showing that if Americans want a job, they can get one. If unemployment goes above a certain number, the guest visa fee goes up in price. QED
And make it clear - the GOP opposes this because they benefit from the chaos because they represent the employers trying to suppress wages.
