Should get some hysteric pearl clutching from Mn after he watches this:

Progressives can have a home-court advantage when it comes to some types of cancellations — for instance, banishment of certain viewpoints in the center-left media or from academia or even from tech companies — because the rank-and-file staffers at these organizations tend to be liberals. But the publishers, founders, and CEOs — the people writing the checks — are often not so liberal at all, and they've been happy to have an excuse to flex their muscle.

It certainly would be ironic if Comey was indicted for lying to Congress about not knowing anything about the leak to the WSJ about Hilary's Emails.....

Trump is indeed a businessman. He's giving 20 billion dollars of your money to bribe Argentina to get favors for himself. Winning.

Here is author Oliver Kornetzke on Trump:

«Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul—all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn’t but has always been—arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshiped like gospel. It is America’s shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn’t just lose its soul—it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.»

Democrats went after Trump and his allies with everything they had for 8+ years and now that he’s in power again they are *shocked* that he’s doing the same thing they did to him. Fucking hilarious.

I eagerly await your plan for selling MAGA on reducing cattle production and getting them to eat hummus and falafel. Their waistlines seem to indicate a willingness to eat a healthy diet low in red meat.

Red meat is healthy, and I never argued to reduce cattle production. Should be sustainably increased, as we need more high quality protein.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just plant grasses and raise livestock?

Potentially in some areas.

So where's the grand plan to replace corn acres and create a larger market for oranically grown chickpeas?  And I don't want a link to a report from an ivory tower think tank or research institution.  I wish I had a dollar for every article I've read about the potential of chickpeas as a new crop in the U.S.

I want to see a plan that has buy-in from the corn producers.  Something that's going to result in a significant shift.  People have been talking about this stuff for decades.

Xi is playing the long game, pivoting away from U.S. ag markets.  Wake the fuck up, U.S. farmers.

[AI Overview] Replacing Corn Acres with Chickpeas: Key Considerations and Challenges

Climate compatibility. Chickpeas are a cool-season crop that thrives in semi-arid, drier conditions. More humid climates can lead to lower yields and an increased risk of disease, such as Ascochyta blight.

Soil requirements. Chickpeas prefer well-drained soil with a neutral pH (6.0-7.0) and do not tolerate wet or saline conditions. This is a contrast to corn, which can perform well in a wider range of soil types.

Market volatility. While demand is high, the chickpea market can be vulnerable to price fluctuations influenced by global supply and trade policies.

Production differences. Planting chickpeas requires different equipment settings than corn, including specialized row meters and adjusted seeding depth. A land roller is also important to prepare a smooth, rock-free surface for harvesting.

Weed management. Chickpeas are less competitive against weeds than corn. The transition may require a different weed control strategy, as there are fewer herbicides available for chickpeas.

What I posted were my personal opinions, not those of some think tank or the Trump administration. I’ve been in ag my entire life, built and sold an ag business, and now sit on the leadership team of a cutting edge biotech company that allows farmers to grow more food with less synthetic fertilizer. I’m pretty plugged in with what’s going on in the industry.

Is this plan you want to see that gets buy-in from corn producers something Trump needs to come up with? I don’t recall you demanding the Biden administration to shore up the commodity prices when they really started plummeting in early 2024.

Corn producers are good at producing corn. They don’t make policy and they don’t create demand. The vast majority just want to grow corn and make some money doing so. Some of them are talking about maybe having to sell a piece of land or something this year if they want to keep going. They aren’t ready to sell the house in Florida, the toy hauler, the $100k King Ranch pickup truck, or the Tri-toon yet though.

That's what I figured.  Talk is cheap.  The ag community has no plan for diversifying their markets to become more resilient.  I can't think of a group more resistant to change.

So the farmers are going to get another handout because of Trump's chaotic tariff policies.  Won't be enough.  Rising input costs, trade conditions, and other economic headwinds will accelerate existing trends, pushing smaller farms over the brink, leading to more consolidation.
