Terrible.

Back in the day, they covered that kind of shit up.

They bust pedos now, but they don't usually mention their nationality..

What are the odds the Paramount merger still does not go through?

I was going to suggest it is more of a bribe than settlement.

The Administration openly admits they are corrupt and dares anyone to do anything about it.

Kind of ironic, coming from the folks who brought us The Price is Right.

If Trump settles out of court I keep hearing it's because he's guilty.
CBS settles out of court and I'm being told it was because they were bribed by Trump who's also openly admitting, baselessly and without evidence, that he's corrupt.

Okay 😂

True

Paramount cuts a deal
The final hurdle for the Paramount/Skydance deal is approval from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). On Monday (July 7), the second (and final) automatic 90-day extension was triggered. This gives the government agency until October 5th to approve or deny the deal.

By all accounts, the Paramount/Skydance merger should easily pass through the traditional concerns of the FCC; however, the agency has taken a more aggressive approach to oversight of the media during the second Trump administration. Paramount made changes to some policies that should mollify FCC concerns about DEI, but as noted in our previous report, the approval was believed to be being held up by a lawsuit filed by the Trump presidential campaign against CBS and 60 Minutes, which most legal experts saw as frivolous in the face of First Amendment protections.

While the FCC has claimed there is no connection, Paramount was determined to remove the lawsuit as an impediment, so last week they settled the case, agreeing to a $16 million payment being made to the Trump library. Making the payment to the library was the company’s way of trying to avoid making a payment directly to Trump, which could have been seen as bribing a public official, and they made no formal apology regarding the 60 Minutes coverage that was at the heart of the complaint. There has also been some reporting that there was an additional “side deal” for Paramount to provide an additional $16 million in PSA advertising to Trump, but the company has denied these reports.

Okay

Actually, it is CBS figuratively bribing Trump. One could say Trump is figuratively extorting CBS.

Also, the issue is liability, not guilt
.
Context matters. Usually, the defendant in a civil lawsuit only settles if he or she is likely to be found liable. Or sometimes if the cost of legal expenses exceeds likely legal expenses. Then it is a a matter of priorities..

Experts agree CBS was likely to easily win. So why settle? Well, expenses to litigate it would have exceeded the settlement amount. Plus, the pending merger ....

So it wasn't necessarily a "bribe" as you say. The cost to litigate may have exceeded the settlement cost.

In other words, editing an interview with a Presidential candidate and getting caught doing it may not have been the right, or smartest, thing to do.

"Making the payment to the library was the company’s way of trying to avoid making a payment directly to Trump ....."
lofl.

The law doesn't work on "figuratively" and 'most experts agree' if select "experts" are questioned.
