It only comes home to roost when they realize the money is gone. If they have a Trump Digital Trading card they paid $99 for, and the BELIEVE it's worth $300, they don't feel broke. They feel that their Trump flag has "value".

They also sort of think that the money for the trading card and the flag went to "the campaign" or "stopping the steal"

But there's no escaping that their stock went to zero, and it went to zero because Trump sold his stock and took the money, the money isn't going to any campaign, it's just going into his bank account.

we'll see. A lot of them are deeply underwater already (well, everyone who isn't an insider is underwater, by definition)

I know a lot of Trumpers, and live in the South (not on government assistance) and I don’t believe that what you’re saying is the bulk of his appeal, but it was a fundamental part of Hillary and the establishment left’s post-election excuse making.

If anything it is exactly this type of “voting against your best interest/we know what’s best for you, racist” attitudes that drove the rise of Trumpism amongst economically disadvantaged people in the first place.

Besides, how bad does Democratic messaging have to be to allow people on public aid to identify with an out of touch NYC billionaire to begin with? How do you let Donald Trump of all people become the pied piper of the trailer park and working class? It was a massive failure that some within the Democrat circles took to heart but most just blamed, again, on the people they alienated.

This is the direct consequence of a toxic two party system where you have the illusion of choice between two underwhelming candidates that mostly serve the same masters. People feel obligated to latch onto one of them and do a ton of mental gymnastics to justify it.

And if you don’t think it’s happening on the left too, just look at this feverish push to convince us that Kamala Harris is anything but an unpopular milquetoast candidate, just like Joe Biden and Hillary before her.

Only she didn’t even have to participate in primaries and was installed in a bloodless coup. But all we see is “omg Democrat is the party of joyful politics” or whatever stupid shit is being shoveled today to cover up the fact that the people claiming to be the ones to save democracy aren’t even holding themselves to a reasonable standard of democracy.

It’s actual—not figurative—insanity. And I refuse to participate.

Well, basically, Trump says what they want to hear, even when he doesn't believe it. And he's a prick about it. These people have grown up being pricks, so when some rich, powerful dude comes off as abrasive, and a prick, and appeals to them, they buy it. I don't know. Maybe it gives them hope. I really don't know.

All I know is that no matter what he does, his base will not walk away from him. Like, really no matter what.

As far as the pied piper thing, yeah. They've always been republican. Problem is now they don't have a choice.

I had a few clients ask me if they should buy it (when it was like $50 or someshit) and I politely told them no.

Harris has one good public speaking event in her life (still want to know what sorcery is behind that miraculous performance) and she’s a good candidate now? What has she or Walz done in their careers as politicians that gets you fired up? Let’s be honest, the only thing that matters to you is they aren’t Trump and they’re wearing your team’s colors. Might as well be Wayne kneeling at his JFC/Bears shrine.

Contrary to what some around here believe, it’s the lack of support given to the lower and middle class. They see corporations and billionaires doing really well (with the help of our politicians), and in the meantime, all we get are gender neutral bathrooms.
