I was born in K3, grew up on a farm, and spent most of my life in rural NE Illinois. There are many, many more farms between ours and the city.

I guess it also depends on the definition of NE Illinois. For people in the metro proper it seems to mean east of 294 and north of 80. Geographically I roughly consider it east of I 39 and north of Route 17.
