The judicial system thought they should get first crack at it.
That's why NY passed the 1 year waiver in 2022 on the 20 year statute of limitations.
Maybe it had something to do with an election this year.

Not a Trump fan and have not been following this whatsoever, just did some reading and it is really interesting they found him liable for the assault so long after the fact and then awarded basically a nobody a huge sum of money she’ll almost certainly never get right as the election shit heats up. We’re gonna tear this country apart for real this year, aren’t we? BS political theater.

Trump says the woman isn't his type and he never met her. He was shown a photo of them together. He identified the woman as Marla Maples. After they told him who it was, he claimed the photo was blurry.

This all could have been done a while a go, but Trump kept stalling.

If I recall properly,  he refused to testify in the original case against him. She won, ironically enough,  on the finger jamming claim. I think he even paid the $5m judgment against him. He then started trash talking. So she sued him for defamation. Well, he just lost. Sucks that the legal system actually provides redress against presidents  who act like assholes when getting sued. Bill Clinton says, "Dude, where's my law license?"
